This was probably an extortion deal that went really bad for Grant. Still, he was stupid enough to buy child porn, he deserves at least 5 years, too bad he probably won't get much more time.

Former television news anchorman Gerry Grant is back in police custody after he was picked up in El Paso for failing to comply with the conditions of his sex offender registry in that city, according to an official with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.
The new criminal charge against him could now put the status of his mandatory supervision in jeopardy, according to Jason Clark, spokesman for TDCJ.
Grant, 47, was arrested Dec. 15 by El Paso police, Clark said.
Grant, a former anchor for local television station KSAT 12, was sentenced to five years in prison in Aug. 2002 after he pled guilty to a charge of possession of child pornography.
He was put on “super - intensive supervision” when released from prison in Sept. 2004, a form of parole that required he wear an ankle bracelet monitor at all times, Clark said.
The bracelet came off in Nov. 2005. He remained on mandatory supervision and put in a request to move to El Paso, which was approved. As part of his relocation, Grant was required to register in the new community as a sex offender, Clark said.
“He knew that. That’s something that was explained to him by his parole officer,” Clark said.
Apparently, Grant had registered with the city but then failed to recently notify the proper authorities within the proper time frame that he was changing jobs, said Officer Chris Mears, with the El Paso Police Department.
Grant's attorney Bill Habern said Grant had notified his parole officer but did not know he personally had to notify the police department of the change.
El Paso authorities still issued a felony warrant for his arrest on the charge.
No trial date on the new criminal charge has been set, Clark said.
Grant’s career as a television anchor came to an abrupt end in Oct. 2000 when he was arrested in a Northwest Side motel while on a dinner break from work. Part of a sting by San Antonio Police Department vice detectives, Grant was seen buying four sexually explicit photographs of children.
His mandatory supervision for the conviction was scheduled to end in August of this year. Depending on the outcome of a criminal trial in El Paso, TDCJ could set a hearing to revoke the supervision and Grant could go back to prison for the duration of the time he had left to serve, according to Clark.
“He’s in a world of trouble with these new criminal charges he has,” Clark said.
Grant posted a $3,500 bond.

I remember reading (supposed) transcripts of conversations between him and an "escort" that was used to catch him. It was really disturbing.
A bullet to the head would fix this.
From some of the stuff I heard and read, it was much more than his having child pornography. He allegedly paid to have sex with an 8 or 9 year old girl and brutalized her.
That would be it
