    Does anyone here buy stuff from GNC (General Nutrition Center) or take any multi-vitamins?

    My protein and iron levels are often low. Lately, I've been feeling super tired and have been considering taking some OTC multi-vitamins, but don't know which ones to take. I'll probably end up scheduling an appt with the Doc, but thought I'd run it by you Pros first

    So, what do you all take?

    Take Vita Lea from Shaklee.

    They're the best. They also have a soy protein that's all natural and really is a good energy boost. Because it's all natural it tastes pretty chalky, but if you can get past the taste it really does work.

    Most distributors are independent, similar to an Amway setup, so you can Google it and order from someone online, or I'd bet there are several folks in Philly who are distributors.

    Their protein helped keep my energy levels up through weekly chemotherapy and radiation therapy sessions years ago. The Shaklee vitamins saw me through a rough time and now that I'm back to my amazing self they help keep me amazing.

    I don't whole-heartedly endorse many things but I honestly think the Shaklee products helped me through a very rough part of my life, health-wise.

    Are you still a vegetarian? If so, I suspect you are locked into a rut (eating the same stuff every day) and that you are violating the "dietary variety rules" rules.

    Also, sticking with the vegetarian theme, one of the big mistakes vegetarians make (especially vegans) is not eating enough vegetables and fruits. Ironic isn't it.

    Consider adding fish once or twice per week to your diet, which would make you a pescetarian.

    The best way to do this is usually just with a good diet (five servings of fruits and vegetables, etc.)

    For women of child-bearing years, folate supplementation is standardly recommended. Also iron since they are at risk for iron deficiency. Other than that, in the absence of a know diagnosis of deficiency, there aren't any standard recommendations.

    There's no particular scientific reason to believe in the benefits of one brand over another.

    I would caution against GNC supplements that contain unregulated amounts of trace metals or herbals, some of which can cause organ damage.

    The other thing is, it's unlikely that "feeling tired" is due to a vitamin deficiency. But a combination of better diet and exercise can help.

    I take generic multivitaimn women's one a day from wal-mart. I was feeling the tired, run down-ness you were talking about 1Parker1, and it seemed to help out somewhat. I started to eat more dairy as well and it helped tons.

    I would think you would need some growth hormones, not female iron defincancy vitamins. But, if you swing that way, that's cool.
