Dallas against teams with winning records 14-6
Phoenix against teams with winning records 7-7

    Dallas vs Phoenix/SAS 4-1
    Phoenix vs Dal/SAS 0-3

Dallas: 20 games against winning teams, 21 against losing teams

Phoenix: 14 games against winning teams, 24 against losing teams.

Miami was pathethic against the elite teams and Dallas held its own against them last year. Did that help the Mavs in the Finals? The Suns will even out the record before the season. In the end you are talking only about 6 games difference. In the last game against the Mavs a bounce here and there and the Mavs would have lost. Case far from close.

maybe so, but that was at the end of the season. during the season, no one considered Miami to be the best team. of course, all that matters is the playoffs. but for now, the Mavericks are the best team in the NBA. but we will see what happens come playoff time.

On a side note I think is cool that so many people are torn between Phoenix and Dallas winning the west along with the Spurs. The West playoffs are going to great to watch this year. There is going to be some great 1st and 2nd round series.

How many effin' threads need to be on this nonissue? Seriously. Half the threads in this forum express a similer, if not exact thought. Only thing that changes is the ever-changing records.

i think so too, and suns fans think their team is better or at least on par with the mavs, for good reason maybe but it doesn't matter, they are both playing great basketball right now and let's just hope that botch can keep it up and stay healthy, bickerinb back and forth is moot. these two teams aside, i'm really looking forward to odom, kwame, yao to come back as well as t-mac's back and melo.

Yeah, this thread is worthless. Might as well make one called "D-Wade > Cuban" or "Rosie (fatter than) Trump" or "Findog = Mavs paying luxury tax"

My ass is just chapped a little bit by all the Suns love (as exemplified by the Simmons article) and the overlooking of the Mavericks. We have four months left and the trading deadline and it's impossible to say who will be better in late May, Phoenix or Dallas. They're neck and neck. But up to this point in the season, Dallas has been better than Phoenix. Doesn't mean anything of course, the Pistons ran roughshod over the league last year and collapsed in the playoffs.

What do you think the Suns will do when Diaw and Barbosa's deals kick in next year? Are they really going to trade one of their frontcourt studs? Or is Sarver open to paying the luxury tax? And do you think that they can get someone to take Banks off their hands, or would it just be exchanging garbage for garbage?

Well, it depends on the type of garbage they can get. If they can get a Stephen Hunter-type (big body, active, somewhat unskilled) for Banks, then it's ok. If they just get another PG who ends up being benched, then yes, it sucks.

Give the Dallas Mavericks the award for this season's best team after 41 games. They certainly deserve it. And, that award is the most meaningful honor of the entire season ...

    More great Mavs logic.

Y'all can bicker all season long about all these stats, they don't mean crap. Margin of victory, who freakin cares. Suns blow teams out by running them off the court. As soon as the other team figures out it can't run with the Suns, too late, they're down by 20-30 already.

Yeah, the Mavs tried to win like the Suns a few years ago and it didn't work. Truth is, Phoenix is alot better at it than we ever were. Mavs now like to just hang around and dominate at the end with pick-and-pops and shut-down defense. Not real inducive to blowouts. So what. They still win the games.

Anybody who thinks one team is clearly better than the other is suffering from severe homerism. From an outsider's view, sure the Suns are more fun to watch. But I'm really starting to enjoy and appreciate the way the Mavs play now. I never thought I'd be saying that after all the years of suffering throught watching the Spurs play. BTW, what happened to them? I have a sneaky su ion they'll have something to say about all this before it's all said and done...

Maybe next season, but this season, you're paying Finley over $16 million and it's forcing you guys to have to pay the luxury tax this year.

Not paying very much in luxury tax, and waiving Finley saved about $50 million in luxury tax.

And countless more dollars in headache treatment for fans and coaching staff based on the way Finley has played for the Spurs this year.
