Not likely. The other teams with cap room will likely be the usual suspects. Charlotte and other never-weres.
Seriously--Tim almost bolted the last time--thank God David Robinson talked some sense to him (that--plus his wife felt snubbed by the Orlando people).
I know that we're pretty down emotionally right now.
I have to admit--tonight I feel worse than I have all year.
But when Tim becomes a free agent--
What are the odds of him walking?
Not likely. The other teams with cap room will likely be the usual suspects. Charlotte and other never-weres.
What was the situation last time that almost led him to leave and why did he decide to stay after all?
He was a free agent for the first time. He visited Orlando because they were supposedly going to get Grant Hill and TMac too and build a dynasty. Tim thought about it, discussed it with David Robinson, and stayed in San Antonio.
They only got TMac because Duncan didn't go. It would have been Grant Hill+Duncan only.
I know that. It's not how they were marketing it at the time. They tried to make it seem like they could get all 3, that's why I said "supposedly".
Are you sure? I remember T-Mac saying he was hoping Tim would sign in an interview that year.
Or what are the odds of Tim retiring when his contract is up?
spurs aren't in danger of losing Tim, they are in danger of wasting Tim.
i wish tim would leave, a team full of scrubs including tp
tim's got about 4 good years left....
It's the same old story, lack of enough youth, athleticism, and speed.
He'll be 34 in 2010 when his contract is up. My guess is he'll get a 2-3 yr deal for between $6-10M/yr and retire in 2012 or so...
Pointless.
Timmy IS the Spurs.
He's going nowhere.
No way in . Spur for life.
The David Robinson plan....let's just hope that one of the Spurs current/future bigs plays the Tim Duncan role when that happens, but I doubt it.
i can see this happening. TD is the atypical NBA star meaning he doesn't strive to be in the spotlight and he actually enjoys time away from the court with his family. i could totally see him retiring to spend more time with amy and sydney...and doing things that he finds interesting like collecting more swords.
According to Patricia Bender's site, Tim has a player option in '08.
I don't know what else Tim wants to do with his life and his $10s of Ms, but he doesn't seem like the personality who will play beyond 35. I figure if next season sucks as badly as this season, he could say it when his contract is up.
And Pop would go with him.
So, Timmy wold go to :
-Lakers?
-Mavs ?![]()
-Magic?
-Knicks?
-Heat, because Shaq is almost done? (wow, Wade+Timmy)
In my opinion, TIM surely wants to retire a la david Robinson... He wish (or I wish) he'll end up his career in SA in good conditions... He's probably inspired by David retirement geting a ring before leaving... (or at least playing his last season in a contender team)
The problem is: Robinson had Duncan to win it one last time whereas TD has nobody yet (no offence to TP and Manu) to help him finishing his career on a good mark...
Duncan probably wants one more ring. Too bad his front office is iffy on that point.
