Maybe Mike Miller?
we heard a lot of rumors in the last weeks, mainly about Gasol, but the last days it looks as if the Grizzlies have put almost every player on the market.http://chicagosports.chicagotribune....-bulls-utility
Meanwhile, general manager Jerry West put his Memphis home up for sale for almost $4 million and went to Europe to scout.
Swift (in a package with Dahntay Jones) has been offered to the Blazers for Magloire and word is, that owner Michael Heisley has told Jerry West to forget fair value and slash the payroll.
it might be a coincidence that West has put his home on the market, but it also indicates, that he also isn't part of their future plans and will be gone after the big sellout.
so, if it just takes expiring contracts with some teasers (picks, cheap players, rights), who should the Spurs go for outside of Gasol, who they can never get.
I would guess the Grizzlies will keep Gay, Warrick, Lowry and Roberts, who are all young and on cheap contracts.
It's a good thing for the Grizzlies that Ted Stepien was Ted Stepien before Michael Heisley could become Ted Stepien.
Isn't Heisley the guy who showed up in San Antonio for the Grizzlies first playoff game in 2004 wearing a "Vancouver Grizzlies" shirt?
I would totally go for Miller. We could offer Miller for Scola rights, Williams and Bonner, and a couple of second rounds. Memphis gets cap relief, Scola and two picks. We get the scorer, shooter, off the bench we so desperately need.
If we can I would add something an try to get Atkins as a back up point guard.
I would LOVE to have Mike Miller in silver and black... but I really doubt its gonna happen...
Anybody know how much Miller makes? I know he signed an extension back in 03 that takes him through the 2010 season (which is probably a non-starter w/ Spurs FO), but for how much?
He's a great scorer and has really seen his average go up with an increased role/starting time.
Mike Miller signed a 6-year extension with the Grizzlies in October 2003 for $47.25 million. He'll be a free agent in the summer of 2010.
haha it feels like the Grizz are having a garage sale with their roster and everyone wants in
Thanks. $8M a season...yeesh. He's good, but I don't know about that...
And the cheap years are LONG gone on that deal. Think: $9-10M or so now, and increasing.
West has seemed to struggle in the luxury tax era. His big coups were in LA, pre-tax. Everything after that Shaq/Kobe summer was downhill. Glen Rice? Elden Campbell? Yuk.
I believe Miller's deal tops out at $9.75 million in 09/10.
I would probably do it. His performances against playoff teams are pretty darn good.
The Spurs do have the ability to help the Grizz lose a contract. But they won't. If the Spurs were willing, they could potentially score a decent player like a Miller and something more in return for the service.
At most we're looking at Atkins if the Spurs deal with them.
Well, the Spurs were willing to eat into 2008 cap space for Joel Przybilla -- who would be better to get as a free agent for the same price as Miller?
...with an offer that was almost $10 mil under his market price.
...which still would've eaten into 2008.
...if an NBA player (other than Sprewell) was actually willing to leave that much guaranteed on the table. The Spurs didn't push hard for him. Frankly, it looked like they were just going through the motions. Assuming that they really wanted him, after they lost out on him they seemed to have switched to maximizing flexibility in '08, so I wouldn't read too much into their half-assed play for Pryzbilla.
Of course you wouldn't. It doesn't fit the agenda.
So they underbid one free agent last summer and that means that they aren't avoiding any significant deals past '08 now?
Like I said, it depends on the player.
Something better than Corey Maggette, apparently.
Except when he's actually in the playoffs.
Miller might be the most unclutch playoff performer in the last seven years. He's like Hedo without the rebounding.
Or not, since they apparently asked again.Something better than Corey Maggette, apparently.
So you'd rather stick with the 08 plan?
Maybe they asked if he would drop the player option.
