The only teams in a 7 game series that could maybe beat the Lakers when all healthy, are the Mavs, Suns, Spurs, Jazz, Denver, and Rockets.

V.S. Mavs:

-Ok so they got Nowitzki who normally kills everyone, but in our case we match up well. First off, Odom does probly as good a job you can on Dirk b/c he is long, faster, and more athletic than Nowitzki. Plus Odom will make Dirk work on the other end. 2ndly The mavs interior Defense SUCKS! ok so now they are a good defensive team??? No!!! Their inside D is weak......and we all know how kobe will on them whenever he wants. Luke, odom, kwame, and bynum can score inside on the MAVS weak bigs....so we'll get layups all day.

-Scared of Devin Harris? don't be.....he isn't as good as billups or arenas at running into ppl and getting fouls...he gets charges more often...so don't worry about that. J-Terry?? Be afraid, but he won't lead the Mavs past us in 7 games. Josh Howard? He's good, in fact he's real good, but his shot sucks....and the Lakers will realize this.

Anyways.....Lakers OWN mavs and we will win.

PHX:

They have the best chance against us...... Amare is back and they beat us last year. What's diff. this yr???

Luke is better. Odom is better. Kwame is better. Bynum plays now! We have Vlad! even Farmar helps......and i'm sure Smush will hit a shot this year vs PhX.........

PHX's scheme of smalls was an asset v.s. us in my opinion. Not that Amare makes them worse, but I don't think they will be as a effective. And not having TIM THOMAS!!! OMG he killed us........ who's shooting those 3's for them this year and bringing our BIg out to the 3pt line.

Our team has improved way more than PHX and considering they no defense at all, we should be fine......won't be easy.....but in 7 Lakers will win b/c they've already been through a series with PHX and without TIM THOMAS making EVERY THREE!!! phx will not win.

real simple for why we beat them. Kwame Locks Tim Duncan. Don't double team duncan and we win. Ginobili will draw fouls, but he's the only one who will do anything great for them. Tony parker can't shoot, so we back off him. Plus the spurs' centers Suck.....Oberto??? Elson??? Garbage compared to Mohammed and Rasho's tall butts......

Not enough shooting power or offense to beat us in 7 games......oh yea....and Odom always kills the spurs. Step back three pointer! Nothing but net LOL and we're all like WTF!!!???

Utah jazz:

unpredictable......Okur is so clutch and will mess up close games b/t us. Even Deron Williams is becoming clutch. Plus the ball bounce to Carlos Boozer for every Off. Reb.......so basically I have to say that based on our experience of beiing in the Playoffs will help us through them.

I don't see them stopping Kobe or Odom...but they will be tough. But like I said....... Deron is a 2nd year and I don't believe will lead them past us. Plus their bench is pretty young with Brewer and Milhsap, so I think we're good.

That might be the funniest thing I've ever read. Lakers fans are idiots. I can't blame them, though, because have you ever watched a Lakers game on TV? I watched a couple on NBA TV and their broadcasters are the ones that build up the Lakers like they're good. In the first week of the season they were saying "No one will be surprised if the Lakers win the West." I bet they've said it the last 2 years, too.

Josh Howard's shot sucks? He's shooting about 50% from the field.

Phoenix plays no defense? Right...and neither do the Lakers. In fact, the Lakers are worse offensively and defensively than the Suns.

The Lakers are as good as any team in the NBA, and certainly have matchup advantages against any team, even the (relatively mediocre) Big Three.

It's not totally inaccurate, but the things that the guy gets wrong are SOOOOO wrong that it makes the whole thing look bad. For instance, I think the guy is right that Odom is one of the few guys in the league that isn't a total mismatch for Dirk, but he's wrong about the Mavs interior D. None of their bigs are great post defenders, but they have enough big bodies willing to play physical to clog the paint. They don't count on Diop, Damp, or Mbenga to do much scoring so it's not the end of the world if they use all six fouls to keep Kobe from scoring at will and getting into a rhythm.

And he's right that the Spurs bigs suck ass right now. He's also probably right about not doubling Duncan, but not because Brown would have a prayer of locking him up. That strategy would keep the rest of team from getting into the flow of the game and turning it into a game of 1 on 5 down the stretch. It's the same strategy that a number of teams have used to beat teams with superstar big men. And Parker not having a shot? Dude's on crack. Right now the Lakers are looking like as legit of contenders as anyone in the wide open west, I'll give him that, but this guy is still a dip .

ol, marked. They can't defend, they're too young and therefore too inconsistent.In a playoff setting they have to defend pick and roll, they can't. They have to bring the mental stamina (maintaining intensity, execution and focus) necessary to close out games in crunch time, haven't shown it yet. They have to show the maturity to finish teams off rather than let them back in, particularly on the road. The Lakers have improved enough over the course of the season to upgrade from first and out to second and out. However, coming out of the west means they have to beat Phoenix or Dallas in a road series. Their defense and consistency are too weak to pull that off. Unless they somehow land Kidd.

While I disagree with this fans unrealistic arrogance about the Mavs D,Howards shot, and Kwame shutting down Duncan, the Lakers can hang with ANY team in the west. They will give teams a run for their money and will be tough as to take down. We do have the greatest coach of all time and the best perimeter player on our team so of course our chances of making the finals are not out of the question. IMO I just feel they need another good playoff run and come next season, they will be an even more realistic threat to win it all. Just dont underestimate the greatest franchise in NBA history (No it isnt the celts).

Any of the top 8 Western teams can beat anyone else when they are healthy. The reality is that not all teams will be healthy now or come playoff time.

The Nuggets certainly arent a .500 team but their record shows the effect of injury after injury and the total lack of chemistry.

Of course that depends on what one considers "locking down", but Brown is easily one of the best post defenders in the NBA and can probably hold Duncan well below 50% shooting if he can stay on the floor.

That statement is similar to penciling in Bruce Bowen as slowing down Kobe Bryant ... the difference is that Brown has a more consistent impact on the defensive end than Bowen does.
