“It’s really not about the Suns to me,” says Jerry Stackhouse. “It’s still about San Antonio. Phoenix hasn’t done anything. We haven’t really done anything, but we’ve done more than them. We’ve been to the Finals. They’ve had a couple of good playoff runs, but most teams in the Western Conference have had those. You look at their record and what they’ve done and they haven’t beaten any of the good playoff teams. There’s some blemishes on their record. I know what those boys down on I-10 gonna bring and to me they’re still the team that we need to have in the back of our minds in order to accomplish what we need to accomplish.”

I'd say that was more of a diss on the Suns than props for the Spurs.

Mind games. He wants the Suns to think they have no respect and then go out watch the Suns and Spurs beat up each other in the playoffs so that Dallas has an easier road to travel. There is always an ulterior motive.

Yeah, Stack is an idiot. Let's remember - this is the guy who said he had a "good look" when he passed up a wide open 15 foot jumper in the WCSF to run back to the 3 point line and try to take a last second shot with Manu in his face.

His comments are just indicative of his fear of the Suns. Spurs are the only team that has done in the west. Getting to the Finals means nothing when you choke like that. Other teams have had playoff runs like the Suns? Nope, they're the only ones besides the Spurs to have back-to-back WCF appearences in the last 5 years.

I think this was more a shot at the Suns through a back handed compliment to the Spurs. Jerry's got a chip on his shoulder because even though they're neck and neck right now there's more love for the Suns from the national media (at least that's how it seems to me). What it looks like he really wanted to say was, "They haven't won , we went to the finals last year." He avoided saying that while propping a team with championship success that they just happened to beat last year as the team to watch out for. It's a pretty savvy move, IMO.

He may be an idiot, but he's saying the same things I believe. PHX is not a team I'm afraid of the Spurs facing in the playoffs. Dallas and possibly LA (the have a pretty big frontline when healthy and above avg defense) are the only teams I cringe about in a 7 game series. I would put Houston here, but as of late they are a one man show. I assume he feels the same way. PHX is good, but they are VERY vunerable b/c of their size. I for one, fel we have just as good a shot as Dallas in taking the west and I think Stackhouse knows that too.

Stack has long been known as a selfish jerk in the NBA, and when he opens his mouth it's like a trainwreck.

Some players I don't like when i see them on the court (Mourning), but when you meet them in person, they're pretty cool people (Mourning at the Essence music fest). Stop calling people jerks when you don't know them. I don't know Stack personally, but I've seen him out years ago in HOU and ATL and he seemed like a pretty cool cat. If I can find them, I'll scan some photos (pre-digital camera photos).

Has anyone notified Stackhouse that the interstate connection between Dallas and San Antonio is I-35....Hmmm...This draws the question....Did Cuban ever visit the San Antonio River, or was he actually describing the town of Houston?

A team who matches up very well with the Spurs/Mavs as well when healthy is Houston. Tmac I heard is having his back messaged all the time and the way they have messaged it has helped him dramatically. As a result he could miss much fewer games. Yao, who has been a ing monster this season before the injury, will be back in a few weeks and Battier was a sick pickup. Houston also has a 4.3 million dollar trade exception to go along with Sura's short contract to get another big to help out on the boards/depth. Oh yeah Houston also can play defense pretty ing well.

You can tell a lot of things just by watching a player on the court. Stackhouse seems like a ing asshole. That plus the local media that gives you insights when he was playing here in DC, I can guarantee Stackhouse is a jerk.
Didn't he slap his wife or something in VA?

    him.

I don't understand why some of you are flaming Stackhouse. He said NOTHING derogatory about the Spurs whatsoever.

Distrust his motives, but how can you hurl F bombs at a guy paying his respects?

    Anyone care to explain?

Damn, this sucks. I was hoping that the Mavs had forgotten all about the Spurs and had gotten overconfident in their ability to beat them. This way they would try a little less when they play them in the playoffs and the Spurs can surprise them. So much for mind games

Good quote by Stackhouse. I believe Jason Terry also had some good things to say in that same article about the Spurs.

I am not flaming him because of what he said. I just think he is a fake ass and don't even take anything he says seriously.

I personally don't like him because when he was playing here in DC he was a really bad teamate, and had his ty behaviour inside and outside the court.

If you watch him closely, even now he will always try to pick a fight with opposing players eventhough they don't wanna fight. He is an instigator. and I've seen the worse flagrant fouls being commited by him.
