They never pick Spurs for the Shootout or the Dunk contest. If you're a Spurs fan, it comes with the territory.
Does anyone know the NBA criteria for selecting the participants? I find it crazy that Barry did not make it! I know this has probably been posted already, but could not find it. Other then Dirk and Kapono, he deserves the right over every other guy...Whats your take?

I think they say there's a formula for who they pick, but I believe that they just select whoever they want to go.
I have noticed this for a long time. However, I feel this Barry SHOULD have been there. I think you can make an arguement regarding Bowen in prior sesaons...
Barry was robbed of his opportunity to be the first dunk/3 point champ ever. Has a Spur ever been chosen for either contest? I think Kerr was, but not in a Spur uniform.
I love Bruce Bowen. I love everything he's done for this team, franchise, city, state, and fans all over the world. But I'm glad he's never been chosen for a 3 point contest. Taking balls off 5 racks all over the 3 point line with a time limit does not exactly fit his skill set.
Mike Miller deserves it. But not Damon Jones!!!
barry would probably pump fake and then try to drive so that's probably why he wasn't picked........
As I think back, I recall back in the day, Edgar Helicopter Jones was a participant in the slam dunk contest.

What was the deal with dirk "winning" last year. I know there was some ballyhoo about it, but I just don't remember.
imagine wade in the contest![]()
he'd be trying to draw fouls.....
Didn't Gervin participate in one of the first slam dunk compe ions?

Gervin was in the ABA slam dunk contests, and maybe other Spurs were too. But what about the NBA ones, dunk and 3-point?
Edit: Besides Edgar Jones. Thanks Man in Black.

Exactly...in fact, Kapono wasn't even initially invited. The Heat organization actually called the league office and was like "WTF?!" And then he got in.
Stern and the league disgusts me sometimes.
Wow. I didn't know that about Kapono (though I don't mind seeing him in it).
So who do you thinks decides? Just Stern and a couple cronies?
Not sure really...my guess, bunch of people in "marketing." I'm glad Kapono made it, I hope he wins it, and then I hope he tell Stern and Co to F'off
No Barry? That just sucks.
The Spurs organization needs to jock its players more.
all Im going to say is it should be up to the coaches... that it.... the fans, we are all homers anyway... you cant trust a homer to judge fairly..
I mean I understand the All-star game was created for the fans... but lets face reality already, most so called "fans" are ing re ed.
If Jesus Christ ran for president against Kobe Bryant, Dwayne Wade, or Gilbert Arenas ( , take your ing pick) it wouldn't be jesus in the white house.
Its just a big ing popularity contest... and thats ed up.
Chuck Person is the only player who was a Spur at the time to participate that I remember...
Barry participated like 4 or 5 years ago when he was with the Sonics
did he? i thought that was the year kyle korver replaced him because of some injury
I remember barry b/c he shot in his warm-ups i.e Bird, but with pants too or i.e himself when he participated in the dunk contest in 96
I also remember b.c after a good round he did the c-walk
ah ok, well then, he's been invited at least twice because i remember the whole korver thing...although, i guess both times, it was as a sonics player...i thought it was odd that terry was invited again because i don't remember him doing all that well, he needs to take the shots coming off movement...his invite is like a crappy consolation prize for getting one mavs all-star!![]()
Gilbert vs. Nowitzki in the Finals, Gilbert takes it home
Cadillac Anderson was in the slam dunk contest one year.
I think stern and his people pick each player by what their marketable value is. For Stern, each player is like an investment.
