Kori is going to cover the All-Star events this coming weekend. timvp hopes to cover the poker tables.

I've never played poker in Vegas. Any tips on good spots to hit around the town? We are going to be there almost five days so I'll have plenty of time to check everything out.

I want to get in the most tournaments I can. I'll also be playing some NL100 and NL200. Any advice?

Also would be interested in where to find any headsup action.

    Tha-a-a-a-anks.

You're not going to find any lowstakes HU action. Whatever you play will play far worse than it does online.

I suggest you play OFF the strip, more on the Boulder Highway section.

less tourists, better and easier odds.

Dude, you're gonna get scammed, they have a system there with the waiters and players.

    Good Luck.

Next thing you know, we're gonna see in Timvp in the WSOP Main Event.

Also, just to throw the question out there if anybody here had a chance to play in the WSOP Main Event how good would you think you'd do?

THe WSOP ME is a crap shoot. A better indicator of poker skill is the HORSE event.

I'd go to that casino featured in the 1997 do entary, Vegas Vacation. I believe they had Which Hand? Rock Paper Scissors. As well as What Number Am I Thinking Of?

The Sahara has some cheap tournies frequently, as well as Imperial Palace. These will be full, but not as hectic as larger casinos. Many hotels, such as Caesers Palace, just opened rooms. They are REALLY nice. If you want atmosphere, just go there. It will be crazy though will the all star game in town. I bet there will be AT LEAST 1-2 people with basketball jerseys on at every table.

We are actually staying a few days after the All-Star game just because we know the craziness that's going to be there. We won't be back in San Antonio til late Wednesday night.

I'd imagine playing with tourists would be better than not playing with tourists. In fact, I'd look for DRUNK tourists to play with. Drunk rich tourists being the best fish of all.

Well there's tourist playing everyday of the year. Not that many locals play in strip casinos.

I'm just saying it will be very crowded and hard to get at tables on Saturday/Sunday.

I played non-tournament (sit & go) tables at the Bellagio that were good. It takes about 15-20 minutes to get your name called to a table, but it's still worth it. Free drinks while you play, and you can leave the table whenever you want.

What type of buy in were the SNGs and how was the blind structure?

    Timvp...

As you probably know, virtually all the casinos have holdem tournaments and you can find one to fit every budget...there are literally dozens every day around town...most buyins are $50-$500 with some allowing small rebuys if you get a bad run early. Rake is pretty much the same everywhere and only matters if you win so just pick an atmosphere that you like...It's the best gambling value for the buck in Vegas since even if you end up losing you can play a couple of hours on as little as $50...here is a site you can get most of the schedules and terms...

Hopefully you can keep finding tourney's but if you end up playing some cash games make sure when you are ahead to go ahead and get up cash out and go take a break go eat or something then come back later. If you stay in cash games for too long the Casino ends up raking in a bunch of your money or the some other players win it back. Oh and if it is a big tournament try and play it slow for a while at begining you can play a lot of hands but you may not want to chase too much. And be careful with rebuy tournaments locals will keep rebuying going all in trying to scare people out and if they lose they just rebuy they have no problems doing it and they expect to do it. So make sure the tourneys you play you can afford to rebuy as well or that you be very patient.

timvp, before you play a tournament, I would check on the blind structure (how many BBs you start with, how fast the blinds go up, etc.). Often times, low buyin tourneys (~$500) are often complete crapshoots even for the best of players.

    Good luck.

Mandalay Bay had some $60+5 SNG tournaments when I was there.

The lowest cash game was $1-$2.

Timvp, I serendipitously found a great place to play poker in Vegas. One of my favorite nightspots in Vegas is “Tangerine” at TI, formerly known as Treasure Island. TI went through a complete overhaul a few years ago to make it compe ive in the “New Las Vegas” climate.

My nephew and fiance were driving into town from San Diego and I suggested we get a table at Tangerine. We were with some friends on this trip, so we all went to TI to meet my nephew there together. It is a great place to party and the outside seating area at Tangerine is a great way to spend a relaxing and fun evening.

We got to TI on time, about 10 p.m., and were headed to the club when my cell phone rang, they were caught in traffic leaving town and would be at least an hour late. Fortunately, TI’s poker room had just opened, so Andy and I headed to the poker room, while the wives got us a table. We went straight there and found the room thriving, and our excitement was palpable.

All the tables were in action( I think there are about 8). There were $1-$3 no-limit tables with a $500 buy-in maximum going. There was a $2-$5 no-limit game as well, with a $1,000 maximum buy-in. In the back of the room, the “big game” was going(not my area of expertise) … the $5-$10 game with no maximum buy-in looked very, very juicy. We took seats in the $2-$5 game, and I bought in for $500, the max that I personally would buy in for. Andy bought in for $1000.

The game looked like a loose game, so I had to be careful. I played well, I think and over the next hour, I managed to squeak out a $600 profit by playing very tight. Andy won about $150 too. My nephew got there and we left for the club, hooking up with the wives at Tangerine which was really lively by then. We had a great evening and the drinks were on me with my big windfall.

Kori and you should check out the club and the poker there, I think you will enjoy it.

I can't handle gambling. I usually lose so I never play in Vegas. Play golf at Bali Hai or Royal Links instead. I would be out the same amount of money, but I would have a better time.
