Is it possible for the Mavs??

They have a tough 6 game roadtrip out east next month and some complacency or injury of some sort is bound to happen... but this team is 29-2 over the last 31 games. At 43-9 with 30 games left, is it improbable for them to go 27-3 and finish up at 70-12?

Now, having said this... I'm not at all for this if it means raising minutes. Championship is goal #1. But with Avery's mental focus instilled on the players minds of taking each game one by one, is it unreasonable to think they could do it?

I think it is. This is a very good Mavericks team, but it doesn't strike me as an "all-time" sort of team -- the type of team a franchise must have to attain those sorts of heights. I could see the Mavericks finishing with somewhere between 64-67 wins -- a stout total, no doubt, and entering the playoffs as prohibitive favorites to win a championship; but I can't see this being the 2nd winningest regular season team in league history.

They're good, but they're not that good.

Yah, i don't think its probable... but it is possible. It would be crazy if they pulled that off.

Let me reiterate tho that doing that and then getting bounced at any point during the playoffs would immediately negate it.

I think the thing that makes it most unlikely is that the Mavericks will likely have wrapped up everything there is to wrap up by the first week of April or so. They'll have 8-10 games that will mean absolutely nothing for anything other than pride. While I'm sure they'll play hard, I'd be surprised if they treated many of those games very differently than late pre-season games (at best). Doing otherwise risks too much, given the nature of their season. They'll easily set a franchise mark for victories, and the Spurs can attest to the fact that there's no particular prize for trying to improve a mark when there's no other significance attached to it.

Isnt Howard out 2 weeks? With injurys and what not, I dont think there is anyway they can do it. If they were in the East, 100% yeah, but not in the west. 65-68 games is reasonable though

Josh isn't out. Someone bumped an old post from when he got injured earlier in the season to give us Mavs fans a scare.

The Mavs are on pace to win about 70-71 games right now if you take out the 0-4 strat. So in their last 48 games (they're 43-5) they'd have to go 27-3...but I seriously doubt they'll only lose 3 more games. I'd say 24-6 is probably more likely nad end up winning 67 games.

Its also possible for the Mavs to lose in the 1st or 2nd round of the playoffs. Even though I rather they make it to the finals so the Pistons can sweep them.

if they are lucky and practicly dont have any injuries (the core of players)....

    offcourse its doable

but usually something goes at least a bit wrong and the west is still a bunch of solid teams
