A large majority of the population like to hear about that kind of stuff -- sex, violence, drug, murder sells, that's why everybody's so interested in these types of movies. Whatever gets you ratings on the newstations part.

The consensus like to hear about other people's problems, notabley famous peoples problems, so they can forget about their owns and get out of reality once in a while.

Also, I'm pretty sure most people in the U.S could care less what's happening over seas as long as it isn't affecting them directly.

I agree. It's unfortunate that most don't care about the world around them and only search for an "entertainment" value. It's called escapism.
