I was having a discussion with friends when they asked me about how and when do the players get paid. We hear about the contracts they have but my question is do they get paid weekly,bi-weekly,monthly. I did a search but didn't find anything or maybe I missed it.

Should Tim Duncan be beefing up his security?
...and I've heard it's direct deposit, not sure what day of the week or if it's bi-weekly.
Bi-weekly, and they don't get paid during the offseason.
Wow- no pay in the offseason! That could cause some cash flow problems
No, no my friend. That's what car dealerships are for. Players work for the dealerships when the off-season comes, why do you think so many of them like playing till June....Championship....RIGHT???!!!...No, they just don't want to have to go back to the car dealership.
I'll take their place![]()
The bank gets the wire transfer from the team and the player gets a black card, right?
I thought they got paid from game to game.
Players get paid twice a month by direct deposit.
That's weird because when Ron Artest was suspended they broke down the money he'd be losing out on by the number of games he was going to miss. And I also heard one time that Shaq wouldn't cash his checks that he got before game day.
I think they broke it down like that to show people how much money they are paid. I've seen them break it down by per day also. A lot of players won't cash checks that they get right on game day because it's considered bad luck. Some won't cash the checks they get right before a trip either until after the first game on a road trip. Of course, some teams like Toronto give them cash instead of checks for their per diem.
No, when they get suspended or docked pay, they take off the amount per game. But they get paid every other week by direct deposit as several people have said here.
Most teams pay the per diem (which is about $103/day for the days they are on the road) in cash.
However, they get paid, you can rest assured that they get:

Seriously, could you imagine going online on the 2nd of every month and confirming that "yep, my balance just increased by $2,000,000".
They changed this, though. The teams used to have more flexability. I remember reading that one of the factors in Shaq to LA was that they would pay him his annual salary up front. The league put a stop to that, though. Lockouts and strikes are NOT painful if players have their cash already.![]()
Average player gets about $50,000.00 per game. or $2000 a minute.
so about $300,000 per paycheck?
not bad, not bad
