I need some advice on multi-vitamins. My doc told me I should start taking them on account of me having low iron, calcium, and just about everything else. Plus, as he put it, "It's good for women to take them early-on." He recommended Centrum Silver.

So I get to the drug store and there's about 10 different types of Centrums out there! How the heck do I decide which one to take? There's a "high performance one" and an "A to Zinc" one which is the one I bought however when I got home I read that it also says, "High Potency" on it.

There was also Woman's One a Day, etc. Not only that...the vitamins all had about only 10% calcium supplement in them, which means I'd have to buy completely separate pills for that! I'm about to just start eating Beef again with all the trouble this is causing me.

Anyone here take any vitamins daily? And if so which would you recommend?

Almost all the well-known ones - Centrum, One-A-Day etc are virtually the same. You are always going to have to take something separate for Calcium ... or just drink milk.

It's hard for women to get enough calcium and folic acid without a supplement. But I never took vitamins until after I was 30. 1Parker1 is young, but I'm guessing her doctor recommended it because she's vegetarian.

If you don't like milk, you can take just 2-3 rolos and that's supposed to give you enough calcium as a glass of milk.

EDIT: wait, are they called rolos?

Eh I take a vitamins, it's hard to get the nutrients you need nowadays unless you take them, the food we eat just doesn't hold that type of vitamin/minerals, anyways get a woman's one a day vitamin, and calcium/magnesium supplements, I also recommend taking a b complex 50 a day and like 3000ish of vitamin c...haha

i see. i know about the calcium, but unless you are lactose intolerant isn't it just best to drink milk? contrary to some beliefs, drinking milk doesn't make you gain weight.

I take the generic Centrum Women's One-A-Day, but for the Cessium as oppossed to the calcium. It's odd your doctor didn't say "Take this." But, you also don't want to combine too many multi-vitamins because you could get kidney stones or something if you take too much calcium.

Iron, calcium, and folate are really probably the only things you need supplemented if you eat a healthy well-rounded diet. The iron and folate can be obtained from any standard vitamin. The calcium can be obtained by taking 1-2 Tums with each meal.

All, I stopped a couple of years ago (though I occasionally eat chicken but very rare) and now I can't bring myself to start again. I drink milk (with cereal in the morning) and I try to have some kind of cheese or yogurt every day, but my mom has a lot of health problems (she has very weak bones and some osteoperosis) so I'm taking precaution.

You're right, also because of herditary reasons. Plus lately, since I've switched jobs and am on a new schedule my eating, sleeping times have changed and I just have no energy these days. I can't even bring myself to get to the gym and normally I'm pretty good about that. And I'm like in bed by 9 pm which makes me feel really old!
