The top 8 teams in each conference qualify for the playoffs, if that's what you're asking.

Eight teams in each conference go to the playoffs.

The eight teams play each other in a bracket elimination system, and the winner from each conference plays in the NBA Finals.

    Uh.. no

Its the top 8 for each conference, with the division winners making at least the top 4 for the respective conferences.

The top 8 from each conference make the playoffs, but every year you get some teams that shouldn't even be in the playoffs. Fluke teams. For instance, Dallas and Houston this year.

You really need to stop posting if you think Dallas is a fluke team.

How did they fluke their way to so many wins?

The 3 division champions in each conference make the playoffs, along with the 5 teams with the best records among the non-division champions, with any ties broken through a series of tiebreakers.

The teams are seeded from 1-8. The 3 division winners are assured of a top-4 seeding, even if the 2nd best non-division winner has a better record than the poorest division winner. The non-division winner with the best record among all non-division winners is also assured of a top 4 seed. The top 4 are then seeded by record.

The division winner with the best record in the conference is assured of the #1 overall seed in that conference.

If the best non-division winner has a better record than the other 2 division winners, that non-division winner is awarded the #2 overall seed and the other two division winners are given seeds #3 and #4, based on their relative records.

If the best non-division winner has a better record than one of the division winners, but not the other, then the division winner with the better record is seeded #2, the non-division winner is seeded #3, and the division winner with the poorer record is seeded #4.

If the best non-division winner has a worse record than both of the other 2 division winners, that team is seeded #4 and the division winners are given seeds #2 and #3, according to their records.

The remaining teams -- teams 5-8 -- are seeded based on record, again employing a tiebreaker system where necessary.

In the first round, the Team seeded #1 playing a series against the team seeded #8. Team 2 plays team 7; team 3 plays team 6; and team 4 plays team 5.

In the second round, the winner of the series between team #1 and team #8 plays the winner of the series between team #4 and team #5. The winner of the 2-7 series plays the winner of the 3-6 series.

The survivors play each other in the conference finals, with the winner of that series advancing to play the other conference champion in the NBA Finals.

Because they lost in the NBA Finals. Why does everyone choose to ignore that??? Are you all blind?? Like I've said before, if Dallas wins the Finals last year, then I'm writing a whole different statement about them.

But they just showed the same playoff softness as they have all decade. They can go 82-0 this regular season and it still wouldn't change my opinion until they win the NBA Finals.

You must define fluke differently than anyone else in the universe, then. A "fluke" team doesn't make the playoffs for six consecutive seasons, reaching the 2nd round in five of those playoff trips, playing in two conference finals, and one NBA final. By your definition, the Phoenix Suns must be whatever is more derogatory than a fluke; and I'd hate to think what a team like Utah, which hasn't qualified for the playoffs in three full seasons is.

"Fluke" teams don't tend to reach rounds like the NBA Finals. They might show themselves to be "fluke" finalists, but that doesn't make them a "fluke" playoff team, as you suggested earlier.

You're either giddy about riling people up with your stupidity, or you're really the worst homer ever.
