At least it will get investigated. There are only two ways the Corps can be held liable:

    1) It is determined that bad design caused the levees to fail (unlikely).

    2) It is determined that the Corps was negligent in the oversight of construction of the levees (maybe).

What happened is that the contractor committed fraud when building the levees by driving the steel pilings a small fraction of the required depth. Driving them 30 feet into the ground would have been one of the most expensive parts of the job, so by cutting the pilings, and only going 5 or 6 feet, they made a ton of money, but left the levees unstable under even the load of a Category 1 storm. That contractor, if this ever were brought to light, could be criminally liable for several hundred counts of manslaughter.

What I don't know is whether the Corps performed its own inspections, or if that was contracted out as well. Whoever did the inspection was at least negligent.

Wouldn't the city bear some of the blame? I would think their inaction would have to reviewed.

I'm still waiting to see just how stupid they are if they re-elect Governor Blanco.

Thanks, as long as Nagin and Blanco don't get elected in Texas, I will.

Why are you mad at me because New Orleans has a dumbass mayor? They re-elected?

"I stopped caring. Their problem, not man."

you are a real humanitarian, huh?
oftentimes, i disagree with the results of political elections.
to make the leap that this means i no longer sympathize with the people who suffer under said leadership is absurd.

Darwinism at work. Any one that re-elects that deserves what happens to them.

Um...I consider the intentionally stupid a threat to my way of life, not a cause to be sympathetic towards.

    Darwin save me.

What do the stupid contribute to society?(aside from liberals I mean)

even going with your re ed worldview, only a little more than 40% of New Orleaneans voted for Nagin (not to mention all the people who didn't vote at all at least in part to the fact that government is notoriously corrupt down here so no one believes in the system)

what about the other 58 or so percent?
its pretty clear that on top of not being a very good person morally or whatever, you are also pretty clearly not very intelligent

    58>40

    What could have been.

If they were too stupid to not vote or unite to keep Nagin from re-election, they qualify as the stupid in my book and therefore not worthy of sympathy...

The ones smart enough to move are the ones that have my sympathy. Because the stupid have ruined their way of life and endangered them.

What's next? I am supposed to feel sympathy for people that elect socialists?

So, what part of New Orleans do you live in?

all i can really say is wow. this will be my last post here because you pretty clearly are not worth the time and energy to discuss anything with in any kind of serious way.

to paraphrase you, people are not individuals. they are charachterized and written off collectively as a group. they have no individual right to dignity or respect, or fair treatment from the state. For someont who claims to be a conservative (with about as much wit and depth as larry the cable guy) its really funny how you lump people together like a socialist/communist/"lefty." You know nothing the conservative values you wear as a badge in all your gy little posts.

the funny thing is that you probably consider yourself a christian too. wwjd, asshole?

The $77 billion figure comes to about $170,000 for each person in the city's estimated pre-storm population of 455,000.

Ok....pussyface. As long as I get the last word in...anything otherwise would be a victory for the stupid. And since stupid people don't know what's best for them...I can't let that happen.

Hey, women have a right to not get raped, that doesn't mean they should go to the tiest part of town in their come me clothes and expect to not get raped.

So basically...you think I'm stupid and have no sympathy for me?

Please hurry and leave the forum..

Wow, so you attribute beliefs to me at your leisure and then respond to them...you sure did own me.

Tell you what pussyface, the best thing for you to do is just stand there shut up, try to live up to your name, and leave the thinking to people with brains.

I'm sorry for not taking you seriously, pussyface, just as I'm genuinely sorry for the stupidity that infects you...however, since you refuse to listen to me and become smarter, I think it's best that you just go yourself and not make your stupidity my problem....I have no more sypathy for you.

    See how that works?

They had the right to vote out Nagin but chose not too. They basically brought it on themselves.
