The play-by-play guys commented many times on how much Elson's defensive presence was felt. In 20 minutes of play, he blocked 2 shots, and altered many more shots around the basket that were subsequently missed. He was doing a great job of rotating and giving help defense.

Very nice game for Fransisco. I also saw him doing a little on the ball guarding out around the 3-point line once or twice... and he didn't look half bad. If he can do that, that would be a huge plus against Dallas.

Brent Barry was dialed in. Unfortunately, Finley wasn't (2-12).

Manu was a little off... costing me 50 bookie points. DAMNIT!

Bonner looked good in the few minutes he was on the floor.

This is the first game I can remember Bruce not attempting a corner 3. Probably just as well, the way he's been shooting... but he really needs to come around with that shot before the playoffs.

Also... could anyone else read Jason Kidd's thoughts? He wasn't pissed off about the officiating. It's just that every time he visits the AT&T center, it reminds him what a dumbass he was for staying in Jersey.

Jason seemed to say, after the 2nd tech called on him, "that's the only ******* call you've gotten right."

Elson was pretty good. I think Timmy looked fantastic defensively. He's really making it a priority to block and contest shots now. Bruce basically shut down Vince when Bruce defended him.

Elson was decent. But when I watched the replay of the game, Dan Hughes was driving me crazy how much he was talking about it (and other things). He repeats himself over and over. Weirdly, he was better in his first game of broadcasting this year than he is now.

    God Bless Sean Elliott.

Yes, Tim was great defensively. Hey... that gives me a crazy idea. How bout' everyone with a vote, pull their heads out of their asses and finally make Tim Duncan defensive player of the year. Is there anyone better? I don't think there is.

Every single FT Duncan took, including the one he made, hit the front of the rim. How the can he not get that right. Hit the back of the rim for a change at least.

I agree, there were a couple of times where Elson wasn't even near the basket and he was talking about his "presence" affecting shots....

    I mean let's get serious, the guy isn't a 90's Mutombo....

No one's comparing him to Motumbo... but he was solid last night defensively.

Id love it when Timmy gets the DPOY this year. Not to mention Finals MVP. Maybe he'll go down as the best forward in history.

    Wishful thinking, I know.

He was decent. But Pop still opted to go small for huge stretches of the game. I hope that isn't foreshadowing for the playoffs. I hope that Pop has enough confidence in Elson to keep him on the floor. I hate small ball.

Anyway, my post was actually more to complain about the announcing, not Elson.

I think he's very deserving and long overdue. I know Bruce is also but at this point I'm beginging to think Duncan has a better chance of winning it.

I don't know who will win DPOY this year, it's pretty open. Ben Wallace is always the backup choice but hasn't been that dominant, IMO. I read an article the other day that declared Marcus Camby will win it!

Kori, I'm not calling it the defensive performance of the year... but "decent" is probably understating Elson's defense last night. At least give him a "good"!

I think Timmy deserves one... and again, who's better right now?

I also think Bruce Bowen would be a deserving recipient. I base that more on the fact that he was robbed of that award the past two seasons, than on his play this year (though he's still one of the best perimeter defenders).

Elson is at his best when he hasn't to defend a "true big" (an heavy player with a post game).
Dirk like players are the best matchup for Elson. Pop has said few weeks ago in his Pop show that he likes how Spurs bigmen match up with Dallas : I think that Elson is a big reason why he has said that.

Dan Hughes is HORRIBLE period. I hate it when he starts screaming at me during a great play.

I think you're right. That's great news if/until we get to Miami (that is if Wade gets healthy in time to help the Heat get back to the finals). But then again... it's not like Rasho stopped Shaq in his tracks either! lol

I'm guessing you're joking... but I don't really know anything about Ely. Is he a real physical type of player?

What the is wrong with Ely anway? Why is he still in street clothes?

    I'm half joking.
Ely won't be a Shaq stopper and isn't known to be a good defender but he is a strong player and Spurs don't have a lot of big bodies to throw to Shaq : Elson is too light, Oberto is too undersized, Horry and Bonner are PFs.

It would be nice if Tim got a sniff of DPOY but I think Bruce has a great shot this year. Actually, the Big that has impressed me the most this season has been Emeka Okafor.
