    Let's see...

Elson is so horrible Pop is forced to play Finley.

Playing Finley, we aren't good enough to beat the second worst team in the NBA on our own homecourt...

So without Finley, would we be the worst team in the NBA?

I guess Parker, Duncan and Manu really suck...

And obviously Pop has to play Finley or we might lose to inferior teams. :roll ingeyes

Can't let Elson see the court...we might lose.

    Pop. Seriously... Pop.

The weird thing about Finley....I can just picture him playing on another team like the Suns or the Heat or even the Cavs and being a scoring machine and not struggling as he has been this season with the Spurs. I really think there's something in the Spurs system...be it Pop's coaching/leadership pressure or the style that the Spurs play that forces great shooters to suck once they come to the Spurs.

I doubt Finley would be a scoring machine anywhere at this point in his career. I think Finley's shooting in the first half of the season was affected by the new ball. He seems like he's been getting his touch back with the return of the leather ball. (Anyone got stats to compare?)

That being said, I've always thought Poop is not a great offensive coach. He's better on the defensive end. The fact that he so rarely calls plays for Manu is proof of that. His inability to devise or employ effective pick & rolls is a major flaw in his system.

I cannot imagine that if Elson & Oberto were setting picks for Manu on a regular basis, that he wouldn't be scoring close to 30 a game, and/or putting the other team in serious foul trouble.

Not bad. We won a championship without Findog, we could still win without him.

Not according to Pop's subs ions we can't...

According to those we are incapable of beating anyone without Finley playing C(or PF).

I mean ...we didn't play Elson last nigth because we would have lost if we had.

Elson took himself out of the game with his fouls to be fair.

I always get a bad feeling about a loss EVERY time someone mentions a streak of victories involving the Spurs vs. another team.

It's about turnovers late in games, we had a couple of critical ones vs. the Celts.

In Pop's defense, our defense in smallball was exceptional, and for the most part rebounding was decent too. The reason we came back was because of smallball. Of course this was against the Celtics, I doubt it'll work as well against the elite teams of the league.

The only reason we came back playing smallball was because Duncan played one of the best defensive sequences of his career during his the comeback...and his rebounding wasn't too shabby either.

He had about 4 blocks in a row during one stretch and probably 5 total in the entire sequence. And he got just about every rebound during that sequence.

Duncan played exceptionally on D and rebounding...not the lineup.

When it turned into a dogfight after the Spurs tied it, the true value of smallball was revealed for the umpteenth time this season....all of a sudden Duncan couldn't get posession of the board and no one helped...they clogged the middle and forced the ball into the hands of Finley and Bowen and aside from the 3 by Finley...we got jack.

    Smallball sucks. Period.

There's a reason 6'7 shooting guards don't play PF. It's been tried before...with better players than Finley.

I'm starting to think Poopavitch is on Cuban's payroll. There can be no other reason for his continued insistence on using an unsuccessful small-ball strategy. Unless, of course, he just has really small balls himself and feels at home with it.

I was saying small-ball sucks when we were winning too. I don't think it's the right strategy for the Spurs. If Poop goes small-ball and wins a Championship, I'll stand corrected. I'll admit I was wrong. But it hasn't happened yet, so STFU.

a couple of losses is good for the spurs... they always get a little too y. I always like when they go on a big win streak before the playoffs, lose a couple a few games out (to bring them back to earth) and then when a few headed in to the playoffs. that seems to be the best recipe for keeping their head in the game.

Weren't the spurs going to go after Maurice Evans if Finley hadn't signed with us? If so I wonder how different things would have been had we signed him instead of Finley?

I wouldnt have a problem with small ball if the Spurs had been winning all season with it. But they havent! Pop decides to start pulling this at the end of this season the same way he started doing it in the playoffs last year.

If Elson isnt getting it done on a given night, let Oberto try. If both suck, stick Ely or Butler in there. Why not try Bonner out with the starters? I hate how he decides to start changing this for no reason with the playoffs a month away. He shouldve been tinkering like this three ing months ago!

Yeah, it's called asking him to think about and play defense He's never had to do that until he went to the Spurs.
