A long night of pain, fever and worry ended with Andrea Bargnani having an emergency appendectomy about 3:30 this morning and the Raptors not knowing when they'll get their prized rookie back in action.

"At this point, there's no set timetable for a return," Raptor president and general manager Bryan Colangelo said this morning. "We're going to be looking at trying to get him back as quickly as possible but we obviously will do it the right way.

"We'll do it with all concern for his health and safety going forward. It's about the long-term approach."

The recovery period varies from patient to patient in instances like this. Raptor point guard Jose Calderon had his appendix removed in the middle of the Spanish league playoffs two years ago and said he was back playing in "two weeks, maybe three."
Bargnani: more the next Yao than the next Dirk.

apparently having your appendix explode in your own body is "soft" to some people.

    Only if you're a Euro.

Euros like Yao, Bargnani, and Patrick Ewing are injury-prone by definition, especially when the problems are not chronic.

But, Lithuania sure is proud of Yao Ming, even if he's soft.

Andrea has missed games recently bacause his grandfather has terminal cancer and because he had an emergency appendectomy in the middle of the night. Anyone who finds a means to bash the man because of that is pathetic.

It should be something like one month.

Viktor Sanikidze (a spurs second round pick who plays in Spain) has had the same surgery few days ago and he is out for 4 weeks .

wtf... I wouldnt call appendectomies soft. My brother had it a few years back and almost died from the ain. A few hours longer and the appendix would have burst.

I've seen your posts on other topics before and this doesn't seem legit.

It's like you posted this just for a reaction more than anything else.
