The Spurs have now won 50 or more games for eight straight seasons. That's the fourth-longest streak in NBA history. The Lakers had 12 straight 50-win seasons from 1979-80 to 1990-91. Boston had a 10-season streak from 1958-59 to 1967-68 and a nine-season streak from 1979-80 to 1987-88.

I can remember a time, back in the 80's, when the local papers would make the Spurs' accomplishment of a 50-win season a headline story. In fact, I seem to recall that at one point in time, all of the players had some special bonus provision in their contracts if the team reached 50 wins in a given season.
Can you imagine what this board would be like right now if the Spurs were going to finish a season with only 50 wins?
By the way, the Spurs have won 50+ in 9 of their last 10 seasons. The lone exception was, of course as Jim noted, 1999, when the Spurs would have had to go undefeated to win 50. Extended over the course of a full season, that Spurs team's winning percentage would have equated to a 61 win season.
Plus, they're now at 12 of their last 14 seasons with at least 50 wins.
Furthermore, if the Spurs go 5-7 the rest of the way, they'll finish with 55 wins for the 7th consecutive season. If they go 7-5, they'll have 7 straight seasons of at least 57 wins. The Lakers accomplished that same feat from 1984-85 through 1990-91.

That's right. A 50 win season is a .610 winning percentage over 82 games.
The Spurs actually have 10 straight seasons of finishing with at least a .646 winning percentage. The anomaly is 1999-2000, when they "only" won 53 games.
The Lakers' 12-year streak of at least 50 wins, was actually a 12 year streak of at least 54 wins, which is absolutely remarkable. Their low water mark during that stretch was 2 seasons (1980-81 and 1983-84) with "only" 54 wins.
The Spurs have the third highest winning percentage of all time behind the Lakers and Celtics.
