    Pacers may dump Carlisle

At some point, it comes back to the coach. That's the way it is in the NBA, more than any other professional sports league, and that's the way it's going to go with Rick Carlisle, whose Indiana Pacers lost again Sunday and are perilously close to performing a task thought darned near impossible: Missing the playoffs in the Eastern Conference.

When this season ends – and that's the good news; it will end soon enough – it's better than even money that Carlisle will take the fall, be the scapegoat for what has been more than three years of front-office foolishness and missteps.

    would pj go there?

Rick is a good coach but players tune him out after a year or two. Bird must go too.

    Cleaning house?

There's been a lot of speculation around the league that if Rick Carlisle is let go by the Pacers (a pretty good bet, at this point), Seattle will be first in line to scoop him up. That is based on the assumption that Rick Sund is still calling the shots in Seattle.

Judging from recent comments from owner Clay Bennett, Sund could be out of work once the season ends, too.

"We came out of (training) camp with high expectations," Bennett said recently. "Clearly injuries have played a big role in our season. But all teams have injuries and challenges, and we were not able to perform the way we hoped.

"Across the board we are all about winning. That is how we judge our success in this business. That is the context we are going to approach in how we do these evaluations and how we reposition ourselves for next year."

Bennett said he would announce some of that repositioning once the season ends April 19. Reports out of Seattle are that he is looking to hire front-office talent from successful organizations.

R.C. Buford and Sam Presti of the Spurs, and David Griffin of the Suns have been mentioned. You can bet the Pistons John Hammond and Scott Perry will be in the discussion also.

I really kind of Hope RC goes, and Sam Presti is promoted to his position.

I hope PJ Carlisimo gets another job, and Pop gets some fresh coaching voices in here, that aren't afraid to tell him to take his small ball and shove it.

That is something I have never considered, but the idea is intriguing.... doesn't RC have a big contract? Is this feasible? If it is, does someone want to make it a thread, because the debate could be interesting.

If you think the spurs are tight lipped about player contracts what do you think they are like about management contracts? I don't think anyone has any clue about RC's contract.

Getting rid of RC has been tossed around by a few here. Many have wondered about RC's contract negotiating ability, and his piss poor judgment on passing on Josh Howard when both Duncan and Pop were at the very least intrigued with him.

The best hope is that he "moves on" and takes another job like the one in Seattle.
