Brent Barry the coverted shooter previously from Seattle, the land lacking an intererior presence since Shawn Kemp. He's got it all smooth passing, good athlestism and enough dashes of flair to keep people interested. His defence is average, although he has been improving lately in the Spurs system.
But why did the Spurs bring him to the team? 3 point shooting. Dead-eye accuracy not seen in SA since Steve Kerr and his 4th Quarter heroics. However dare I say it Barry has been poor in comparisons to my hopes/comparisons, and what I believe he can do.
He was god awful in pre season, we can all agree on that, it was NOT pretty. Everyone, including me said not matter "It's only preseason" and granted Barry has made improvements in the regular season, his percentage is not even that bad.
It just seems that he is missing a lot of open threes, TD through his double team drawing ability is getting him beautiful looks the likes of which Barry has never seen previously and he is.... clanking em.
At the moment Barry is shooting at a percentage comparable to what Hedo shot last year, and whilst that was good enough to lead the nba at points he has recessed this year without TD. Showing that perhaps TD is worth an extra couple of percent to that wonderful Brent Barry career 3 point percentage.
That is what I'm harping on about, you would expect (I know many of you did, some even inclining the possibility of a 50%+ 3p field goal season from Brent) that he would shoot at minimum the 45% that is career mark.
Don't get me wrong I love Barry's flair, bursts of athletism and intangeibles I just think there is room for improvement in the shooting aspect at the moment.

Is that all you got Buddy? No explanation? Are you such a blind homer you are to naive to explore a players faults?
Barry needs to kick it up a notch, but he's still learning the system and will get there. His shots looked forced against the Sixers until he got his rhythm going by hitting that technical free throw. After that, he hit a couple of key jumpers.
But the Spurs need him to be a +50% shooter like he was on the Sonics. That's why they brought him in ... everything else he does is gravy.
P.S.
I guess The Writer didn't want to think things through tonight.
I answered your question in the thread le.
Simple as that.
How can he be a disappointment 8 games into the season????
Bring this up in Mar/Apr.
It is only eight games, I would be more willing to give an assesment probably early January late December. However yes his shot seems to be missing more than hitting.
I'm not disappointed. Against the Sixers, nobody could shoot during the 2nd and 3rd quarters for the Spurs. Barry will be better than Hedo was because of the other aspects of his game. He's a complete basketball player, really.
In the Philly game, it was frustrating seeing only 2 Spurs able to score (Ginobili did hit a couple of threes but for the most part got his from the FT line). Shooting is about rhythm and Philly really took San Antonio's rhythm away for much of the game. Parker and Barry both do better when they are in a good shooting rhythm, in motion.
I think things are going to be okay there, xcoriate but it is good to question things.
brents gets a handful of games only? i know other players on this team that are getting years....
no barry = no le in june. patience.
Yes, he's a HUGE disappointment! His shot is very ugly and I've heard that he's a locker room cancer as well.
Get back to us when you know who's on your team.
Trade him for Hedo
Brent Barry has not disappointed. He has stepped in and filled the Steve Kerr role quite well. Now Spur fans will not go without a white player who they can tell all their buddies should play more because "he can hit those 3 pointers real well."
Also, did I mention he was "surprisingly athletic"?
Please watch the next Spurs Roundtable for the answer to this topic.....
"He's a complete basketball player, really."
Hedo was a better defender and rebounder. Brent is an mostly, primarily an offensive tool.
Barry has to do a lot of extra thinking out there on the court right now. He has consider his position in plays he's not familiar with, figure out and monitor where players like/want to position themselves, constantly keep track of where everyone is and where he needs to be in relation to them, and he's trying to find out where and what his role is on the team. He has a high basketball IQ but there is still an adjustment that needs to be made when you go to a new team, especially one as radically different as the Spurs. Barry hasn't been on a defense oriented, championship caliber team with an MVP bigman. Right now, he's probably concentrating too much on trying to get Tim the ball and doesn't expect to see it kicked out of the post that often, is wondering "how the #@$ did I get this open" and "where the $#@$ is Manu now" as he tries to follow the Roadrunner style flames on the basketball court. As he gets more familiar with the Spurs system, all that extra brain work will become second nature and he'll be able to just concentrate on being ready to put the ball in the hole. His contribution is being made in all other areas of the game and let's not forget that 45%fg and 38% from downtown are still good percentages for most shooting guards. Give the man some time and we'll see them wander back toward his career numbers.
I respect your opinion, but I disagree.Brent is an mostly, primarily an offensive tool.
I agree. Brent Barry is a tool.Brent is an mostly, primarily an offensive tool.
Lemme get this straight, there's a Blazer fan calling Brent Barry a cancer?????? Dude you've gotten jumpy watching your team.
It's ok 00...ya gotta know Tlong.![]()

Brent will a good season and will the shots when it counts.
Championships aren't won with November victories. Yes, season record is an important factor, but the basic concern for the Spurs this season is to be ready for a deep playoff run.the Spurs are 7-1 and all people do is
Amen, Gospurs. I remember when they started out 6-8 in the '99 season. You would have thought that Pop had sold nuclear secrets to Iraq the way people were talking. Now they are off to a 7-1 start and people are jumping on Beno, Brent, and any other Spur who has missed a shot this season. 8 DAMN GAMES!!!
Perhaps the major sports leagues should issue ing licenses the same way states issue hunting licenses. Anyone complaining about a sports issue less than a 10th of the way into a season would be subject to fines. It's one thing to say, "Gee, Barry had a rough night" or "He's off to a slow start" but to hang a le like "disapointment" on him is a little premature. While the percentage may be a little off for him, he has hit clutch shots in games against Miami and LA, with a lot of eyes watching him. Besides, he's learning a new role in a new system on a new team.
