@ IcemanSucketh. If I were a fan of Texas, I'd be rooting for him to leave too.

He'll have plenty to do next year. Losing Law, Kavilauskas...but he's Billy ing gillespie, so he'll bring in some hot recruit. JGW, how'd you go from AH (2006 4AAAA football champs!) to Cal Lutheran, to A&M, to USC?

    Nice try but no.

I searched google for Kentucky fan forums and one had a 14 page thread of BG rumors along with Self and Floyd. That's all. UK is looking at everyone ya know. They will get whoever they want for sure.

According to CBSSportsline.com, they have been unable to receive confirmation that he has actually signed. Which means nothing, but they are spinning it.

    Plan B for Kentucky

    Moving forward
    Donovan's out, Kentucky's still searching
    Posted: Thursday April 5, 2007 11:51AM; Updated: Thursday April 5, 2007 1:46PM

LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) -- There goes Kentucky's Plan A.

Billy Donovan's decision to remain at Florida rather than take the vacant head coaching job at Kentucky leaves the field for Tubby Smith's replacement wide open, with names from all over the college basketball landscape finding their way into the rumor mill.

Texas coach Rick Barnes could be on athletic director Mitch Barnhart's list. Texas A&M coach Billy Gillispie has agreed in principle to a contract extension with the Aggies said spokesman Colin Killian. It was unclear, however, whether Gillispie had signed the extension by Thursday afternoon.

Michigan State coach Tom Izzo and Memphis coach John Calipari's names have also been mentioned.

Barnhart issued a statement on Thursday asking for patience during the hiring process.

"We have had productive conversations with various individuals over the last two weeks, and it's obvious that there are a number of outstanding coaches who could succeed at Kentucky," Barnhart said. "I'm confident we'll find the right man."

When that'll happen is anybody's guess.

Donovan, a former Kentucky assistant under Rick Pitino, was considered the school's first choice to take over college basketball's all-time winningest program. Donovan's ties to the school's Renaissance under Pitino and his up-tempo style of play made him an appealing pick for one of the nation's most ardent fan bases.

Barnhart received permission to talk to Donovan late Wednesday night, but by Thursday morning Donovan had decided to stay at the school where he's won back-to-back national championships.

The Wildcats will need to act quickly if they want to have a new coach in place before the spring signing period begins on April 13.

Huntington (W.Va.) High forward Patrick Patterson and Bellaire (Texas) guard Jai Lucas were being heavily recruited by Smith before his departure.

Both players said they're still considering Kentucky at last week's McDonald's All-American game, but would wait until the Wildcats hired a new coach before making any decisions.

Whoever Barnhart hires will have to stabilize a program that's struggled -- by its lofty standards -- over the last few years.

Kentucky hasn't made it to the Final Four since winning the national championship in 1998, the longest drought between national semifinal appearances in school history. The Wildcats went 22-12 this season, losing to Kansas in the second round of the NCAA tournament and have lost at least 10 games in four of their last eight seasons.

Smith's departure opened the door for center Randolph Morris, who signed a free-agent contract with the NBA's New York Knicks the day after Smith left for Minnesota. Morris was eligible to sign with an NBA team under a rule in the Collective Bargaining Agreement that made him a free agent when he wasn't selected during the 2005 NBA Draft.

Damn, he left us for the best gig in college hoops. I can't blame the sips for being happy, Barnes was going to be Billy's .

I wouldn't call Kentucky the best gig in college hoops. I'd rather coach UNC, personally. So what is the state of AM hoops now? Who do they go after? Possibly a mid-major?
