Karl Malone may head back to school.

The NBA legend could be hired as an assistant at Louisiana Tech later this week when the school is expected to introduce Kerry Rupp as its new head coach, FOXSports.com reported.

And Malone is seriously considered joining Rupp’s staff, the site reported.

    .

Rupp is a former high school coach in Utah and was the co-executive director for Malone's Foundation for Kids program.

Malone spent three seasons at the school, which ended with a berth in the Sweet 16 before being selected 13th overall in the 1985 NBA draft. The Bulldogs were 74-19 in his three seasons.

Malone played 19 seasons in the NBA, 18 of which were with Utah. He averaged 25.0 point per game and 10.1 rebounds a game.

Malone was selected as one of the 50 Greatest Players in NBA history and is a two-time league MVP.
