I heard that Dirk "manscapes"...shaves his underarms. I had to google pictures and it seems to be true. Does anyone know why he would do such a thing? I know swimmers shave but I've never heard of a basketball player doing so.

Oh, and can anyone tell me why I even want to know? I am not a Mavs fan, not a Dirk fan. But for some unknown reason this struck me as odd and peaked my curiousity.

unusually hairy underarms that he doesn't want exposed every time he takes a jumpshot? i dunno. how hairy do germans get? a little manscaping isn't a bad thing as long as it's not your pubes.

Really? TMI, but I shave my merkin. Only way my girlfriend will blow me. I don't think that's an unreasonable request, I don't want a mouth full of thick brush when I reciprocate. Having shaved my armpits before, I don't see the point. It itches like and the deodorant is harder to get rid of in the shower, for some strange reason.

Perhaps this thread belongs in the off-topic forums.

I dunno if a man should shave anything other than his face, but a little underarm trimming isn't such a bad thing for me. I tend to sweat and stink a little less by doing so. And things get way too itchy and uncomfortable when I manscape the nether-regions so I just keep that 70's porn style. But to each his own. Dirk can pluck his eyebrows and carry a purse for all I care, as long as he keeps hitting his fadeaway.

I don't care. I was curious. I've never heard of a basketball player doing it.

EDIT: I wasn't sure where to post this. I put it here because lots of Mavs fans are here and I figured they'd know.

This is kinda funny because, during the 2005 season - when TD was having such a horrible time with freethrows - fans were sending in all kinds of tips. One little old lady told Tim that he needed to shave his armpits - then he'd be able to make his freethrows!

And - Dirk's pretty good at the FT line isn't he?

The balls and upper-junk areas get trimmed when they get out of hand.
Did armpits once, but it's really not necessary.
Only s and swimmers feel the need to shave their legs.
Never had a unibrow, that I can see how that would be important to trim.
Shave your back if you have to, but enjoy the mane on your chest.

Lots of information coming through but...Why would a basketball player do this? Is it just a personal hygeine choice or can it possibly help his game in any way?

I think alot more guys besides Dirk do this, and I think it's more of a hygiene and etiquette thing. Do you really want to go up for a rebound with another guy and get a faceful of pit hair? Or box out with a guy that's got fright wigs up under his arms? I rarely see any NBA players with alot of armpit hair, so I'm guessing the majority of them do a little trimming to that area, mainly for the benefit of the other guys on the court.

The timing of this thread is priceless.

I just had a couple ( early twenties) come up to my information booth ask if I knew of a place that does full body waxing for a guy.

Thanks-this makes sense. I guess I never looked that close at their underarms. Nice to know the guys in our league respect each other enough to do this!

Some people just don't like hair; it happens. I shaved my legs when I was running x-country all the time because it just felt better with some of the muddier courses. I'm getting back into running shape, and I could see where the hair in the pits would get annoying. I won't shave them, but it's understandable.

Personal preference, I guess. I don't know if Dirk is married or not, but just given his fame, I doubt personal appearance factors much into attracting the opposite sex, so whatever makes him comfortable, works.

You heard that Dirk shaves his underarms and now you want to make a thread about it? And on top of that, you googled pictures of his underarms shaved?

    Seems suspect to me.

Dirk is not the only player in NBA that does that for SURE. I was never thinking about that, because I thought that many of them do that. Try shaving it and see how it looks like after 5 days. Exactly like 80% of NBA players look like.
