You may disagree with his conclusions, but David Aldridge is hardly an idiot. Rather, he is arguably the single best NBA analyst out there.
ESPN got rid of him because he brings knowledge instead of flash. He is perfect on TNT.

What he said.
I don't think David Aldridge is dumb, but the other day on NBATV, Andre Aldridge was the analyst with Alaa Abdelnaby. And Abdelnaby said, "Coach K used to tell us ..."
And Andre Aldridge said, "Who's Coach K?" and then LJ and I, of course, thought he was joking. But Abdelnaby was like, "Umm, Mike Krzyzewski - Coach - Duke University?"
And seriously, Andre had never realized who Coach K was until that second.

Yeah Andre is a total moron....
"They didn't pick us so they are stupid!"
The point DA is trying to make is valid. Dallas won't have to face every "top" team. That's a big advantage.
It's not that; He is just assuming that Spurs-Suns is gonna be a long series, and I don't think so
Plus, what makes him think that Mavs will sweep everybody before the WCF ?
david aldridge and ric bucher are the best, imo. i also like david dupree....
David Aldridge is the smartest NBA analyst I've known in this era. If he says the in NUGGETS are sweeping the Spurs, I'd probably give it some credence unfortunately...
So that makes him stupid?
Did he offer reasons as to why (I can't listen here at work) he thinks what he does? If his reasons are based on analysis of the stats, matchups and records, well, then he's got his opinion.
Well, I don't know, they are so many intangibles ; yes , Dallas is going to make it to the WCF, but they won't sweep Golden State ; then, they'll have to play the winner of Utah-Houston, and that won't be easy either
Did he offer reasoning behind what he said?
Not much
Having an unbiased opinion, I think David's analysis is pretty spot on. Everybody agrees that Dallas, Phoenix and SA are the top teams in the West. If a team only has to play one of those teams to get to the finals, then they clearly have an advantage over the other two. Dallas could struggle against Nellie and the Warriors, but odds are they won't. Then they follow that up with a tough series against Utah or Houston, but those teams are an unknown at this time (in regards to playoff basketball). Look at the matchups and potential matchups:
RD 1
Dal vs. an inexperienced Warrior team
SA vs. a dangerous Nuggets team with playoff experienced veterans
Phx vs. Kobe (I mean the Lakers that almost pulled the upset against them last year)
RD 2
Dal vs. an inexperience Jazz team or a tougher matchup for them in the Rockets. The Rockets could provide Dallas with much tougher series than people think. They're a tough, defensive minded team that has scoring potential. If Yao and TMAC are truely healthy, then the Mavs are in for a longer than expected series. However, this is still an unknown.
*SA vs. Phx Not much more to say about this one.
*Note to all Nuggets and Laker fans: I'm not saying your team can't pull the upset, I'm just looking at everything on paper and trying to illustrate David Aldridge's point.
Based on this information, I would agree with David if I wasn't a Spurs fan. He is an intelligent basketball analyst, not an idiot.
did he say the mavs were going to sweep everybody before the wcf? learn to listen lefty, dang, you are always mangling the source, whether it's written or spoken. i don't think any one team can rest much in the west from one round to the next but i do think the spurs/suns potential matchup is going to be big for the team coming out of that side of the bracket
when comparing all the analysts out there, david aldridge is one of the last guys i'd call stupid. if you disagree just state why you disagree and maybe you'd have a valid point but you just sound like you're whining. there are plenty of guys out there picking the spurs, it's the media, it's the playoffs, you can find any spin you want out there, mavs, spurs, suns, probably even the lakers!![]()
Umm....yeah...
I know he didn't mention sweeps; but he said that the road's gonna be tougher for the other 2, and that Mavs would be fresher........
Plus, spurs-Suns could be a shorter series than most people expect to be ; Spurs know how to play them
And by the way, Ponky, the Lakers??![]()
i'm sure there is some lakers media homer going off about how the lakers have a chance...somewhere![]()
Yeah, they believe Koballhog and Arrogant Mustache will do miracles

Let's see...what DA actually said was that since the Mavs wouldn't probably (guess this was before everything was locked down) have to play both the Suns and the Spurs, they had the best shot at making the Finals and winning it all against the Pistons or Heat.
Yep. That's pretty basic basketball logic to me. If the Spurs were in that position, they'd be feeling pretty good about it. DA is the best analyst there is, and ESPN was stupid to replace him with that guy who yells and hates white people.
moron? not knowing a fact doesn't make someone a moron.
Yes he is a crap NBA analyst, but maybe he researches quantum physics in his past time![]()
Are those two related? Andre is an idiot with lines like "Give me three pieces of money"when someone shoots a three. When he is teamed with Fred Carter it's almost unwatchable, but ol' maddog Carter usually has the Spurs back, so I can stomach it.
He never said the Mavs would sweep every team before they got to the WC finals. He said they'd have an easier time of getting there, based on their form during the regular season, home court advantage throughout, and perhaps easier teams based on the standings and therefore would be more rested and not beaten up.
He also said that their advantage was that they wouldn't have to play both the Suns and the Spurs whatever happens, while either of those teams would have to win out against the other in tough series and then face the Mavs and that should give the Mavs an advantage.
You got a problem with that analysis? It is the conventional wisdom from anyone who knows basketball, neither startly or particularly newsworthy--but certainly not stupid.
Andre Aldrigde is the biggest Lakers homer on TV. I dont know how many times on NBATV he says "Well being from LA"". Shut Up Andre know one cares where you are from. Take some lessons from your brother David
I don't think anything he said was stupid.
BUT, a very TIRED, WORN OUT, and "old" Spurs team was one shot away from taking out the league's "best" team last season. They are much fresher going into this years playoffs.
Right now the SPurs are as ready as I've ever seen them and I'm sure they know their window of opportunity is closing soon. How long does everyone think Tim, Manu, and Bruce can keep going?
