Mavs look just as dominating during the regular season as Detroit did last year.
They are one of the best perimeter shooting teams in the entire NBA.
There are only 3 teams in the NBA that have any chance at all to beat the Mavs.
The Spurs:
When we go small, Finley and Manu must shoot well from outside and Tim must protect the paint.
When we are big, Elson must stay out of foul trouble, rotate to the right spot on defense, help protect the paint, and as a team we must rebound the ball very well, especially on defense (Damp is good at getting offensive rebounds).
We must keep them out on the perimeter, where they normally gravitate to.
If we are to win, 3 players will need to step up: Elson, Manu and Finley.
If they play well, we will win. If they don't, we won't.
The Suns: Last year's Dallas team was a pretty good defensive team. This year's team is not. Suns beat the Mavs at their own game and as Shawn Marrion pointed out, the Mavs are not nearly as good at defense as us. Nobody can stop Dirk, but Marrion can make it tougher for Dirk to score.
For the Suns to win, they must keep the Mavs off the offensive boards as much as they can. (they won't be able to stay even with the Mavs, but keep the margin respectable and they should win).
Houston: TMac is the best player for either team in this series. That's just the way things are. T Mac can handle the ball like a point guard (unlike Dirk), has the athleticism to drive to the rim in a way that Dirk can't, can create and playmake for his team (unlike Dirk), can rebound almost as good as Dirk (and has the athleticism to), and is a much better defender (he can defend Dirk better than Dirk can defend him).
TMac will determine who wins the series.
Houston must decide how they will defend the pick and roll. That is their biggest single weakness when Yao is on the court.
However, they have several players who can make it hard on Dirk: first, TMac, second Battier, third Hayes.
They know they should have beaten Dallas in 05. They have a good chance at the upset this time.

I thought about it, but this involves too many other teams.
This is just what I see.
I see the Spurs/Mavs series as a very compe ive series as most people do. Probably, most of the analysts are 50/50 who will win that and I can understand why this is the case. We don't match up well with the Mavs and I know that.
Mavs don't match up well with the Suns. If the Suns rebound well on the defensive side, they should win. I would say that the odds are 60/40 that the Suns would win this. However, the Suns can't beat us (the Spurs) so you guys won't even have to worry about that. The Suns don't match up well with us.
In regard to TMac, that's my opinion. You could make good arguments the other way, but I think most people would agree that
Tracy is the better ball handler
Tracy is the better playmaker
Tracy is the better defender
Tracy is the better slasher
Tracy can make his teammates better in ways Dirk can't or doesn't.
Obviously, Dirk is the better shooter (esp from 3) and is a difficult matchup at best for anybody (nevertheless T Mac can defend him as well as anybody I guess).
So, as I look at the skill set, I see T Mac 5 Dirk 1.
While you may not agree, I think you can probably see how a person could see things this way. It's not simpy a homer or I hate Dallas opinion.
Remember, I would still view it as most people would an upset if Dallas does not win and if I were betting, I would bet on Dallas to win that series (even though I would prefer that Houston won).
Good to see you this morning, SpursDynasty. What did you have for breakfast?
Who is Spurs Dynasty?
I am really confused.
I am Mavs<Spurs. Before that, I was themanurules.
BTW, ask Kori for some more vbookie money. Unless, you made her mad or something.
Did you really just resort to bagging on vbookie money? If you care, it's out on two separate bets right now.
I take back what I said. You're not SpursDynasty. He's Pablo Neruda to your Theodore Geisel.
Weak dude, weak. I dont know if youve noticed but there was like 20 vbookies put up, a lot of people dont have any. Btw, hate to break it to you, but its fake.
werent the mavs a top 3 defensive team this year anyway?...and i highly doubt marion said that the suns were a better defensive team than the mavs...if he did hes re ed
he did say it. It's a matter of public record.
So, you highly doubt something that is a matter of public record.
And I gues you believe that we never went to the moon
and the earth is flat.
By the way, Mavs aren't a top 3 defensive team in either points per game or in field goal percentage.
Orlando, Cleveland, Detroit, Chicago, Houston and San Antonio each beat them in at least one of those categories.
They allow about 45 % field goal for the opposition.
They also allow about 93 points per game.
The points per game makes them look better than the field goal percentage that they allow on defense.
I could be wrong, but I am thinking that they were even further behind until the last several games.

Weak is when you assume somebody has malicious motives when they didn't.
You assumed that I had malicious motives for posting that (ie I was trying to be insulting). Fact is that I was trying to help and I in no way was saying it to put anybody down.
If you noticed, I only have $450 myself. And I have run out of vbookie money.
So, why, then, why I say something bad about someone else getting low on vbookie money?
You were completely wrong on your assumption; but, I won't hold my breath waiting for an apology.
Did you really just make your second incorrect assumption in about as many posts?
I was actually trying to help because I have run out of vbookie money myself.
I didn't insult you.
You assumed incorrectly I did.
Then you insulted me (I have found that when people resort to ad hominem arguments it is usually because they are people of low character or can't defend their positions anymore).
You mavsposters are really amazing.
sounds good to me.![]()
The Mavs finished the season #4 in points against, behind San Antonio, Houston, and Detroit. The Mavs were #4 in that category since late December and held there most of the year, briefly slipping into third for a time.
he can't be SpursDynasty, or he would've added the .
Some time between 11am-noon, this guy found a really good deal on a dictionary.
If I wanted to insult you, I would have just called you a got.
Weren't any big words there. Did you have to look up some of these words? If you did, how is that my fault?
My vocabulary is okay: My GRE score was the median score at MIT.
If I need to, I don't mind using a dictionary: it's a good example for my students.
On the other hand, this time, I didn't need to.
That sounds about right.
However, I think that field goal percentage defense is a better indicator:
Ours (the Spurs- isn't awe inspiring either) is only slightly better than the Mavs now.
However, if I remember correctly, a lot of teams seem to cluster around 44.7 to 45, where most of the league is. This might be construed to make them a little better than average.
Really good field goal percentage defense seems to be between 43 and 44, a little below ours.
If I rely more upon subjective personal opinion of the games that I watched (where Dallas or San Antonio played) (especially in the latter part of the season (from the all star break) up until the last week or two ), San Antonio can and has been playing great defense and Dallas not so much.
Just my opinion based upon what I have seen.
