While I am disappointed in Elson's play this post season (or rather, while the playoffs have barely started, timvp's playoff stats for Elson weren't exactly encouraging) I am at least hoping maybe he'd fare much better with other teams such as the Suns whose pace might be able to suit Elson's attributes a little bit better.

However, Beno Udrih on the other hand has been pitiful for quite some time now. I'd still like to believe he can be a decent shooter when he wants to be, but sometimes I wonder if beno just sucks because he's lazy, or if maybe putting him in a halfcourt offense just doesn't work for him (we all remember his performance against the half court traps against the pistons in 2005)

So do you guys think beno will be any semblance of a factor for us in the playoffs or is he pretty much/officially all but done for?

How badly do we need Udrih to step up?

(though I love Vaughn as a backup, any extra help off the bench shouldn't hurt)

Beno's damaged goods in San Antonio. Whatever confidence he had has been completely eroded away, if unintentionally, by a hypercritical coach and now even the other players don't like him.

He won't see PT unless one or both of the point guards get hurt. Pop wouldn't even insert Beno into garbage time against the Kings last year, which is how Parker got that thigh bruise, and Beno has regressed so far this year, I'd be surprised if he has any value at all as anything other than an expiring contract. That said, I expect him to do well in another situation. He's got loads of talent.

He is sensative and his confidence is shot. Pop gave him ample chances to show him that he could back Tony reliably. I just think Beno is the kind of player that can't handle coaching like Pop's. Pop has no problems benching someone for the slightest mistake and Beno has been treated that way since he was raw. And he is still raw and he didn't take to it well.

He needs another team now, he seems to only be able to make shots in garbage time when it doesn't count, otherwise he's nervous out there.

Yeah, I don't think Pop was doing anything intentional, but if someone can't fit in with the way you do things, then they need to move on.

If Vaughn can't knock down a shot, Pop may be forced to stick Beno out there for a game to see if he can conjure up any magic.

Pop likes to get mad at Beno and the best way to get riled up is to play him and watch him make mistakes, so I think Pop will find a time to get Beno some minutes.

Yes Pop's/Sloan's styles are for tough minded players. Weenies don't cut it in Utah or SA.. Beno may not be a weenie but he seems to be weak mentally.. at least in SA he does..

I thought of that, too. It is really hurting that the Nuggets don't even bother to cover him because he can't hit the broad side of a barn, but I don't think Pop will bend. Tony's minutes will just increase. But the Spurs are in trouble if TP gets in foul trouble.

I still don't understand why Pop never at least attempted to use Barry as the back-up PG this year. I know he is slow and a defensive liability, but I still think that overall he could contribute more to the team's success than playing Vaughn. It was good enough in the NBA Finals, but somehow never again.

I think Beno is clearly gone after the season; it would be better for the Spurs and give him a fresh chance someplace. Im not sure what his contract status is if we can trade him or if he is a free agent.

this is the playoffs. beno had 82 chances to prove something in regular season. and he proved nil.

DO NOT put Beno in at any instance, except garbage time.

Vaughn is put in to bring defensive intes y and energy, for very short periods of time, I'm ok with that.

we also have barry who has not been playing many minutes, he could easily be our backup PG as well.

Wow, no posts fro AngelLuv, the ultimate Beno defender He is doomed!!
Beno is not a good fit for the Spurs, He looked like he could be an effective back up for Tony, then Pop tried the "Van Exel experiment" Beno has not been the same since. Trade him to a team where he can do some good. Sorry Angel!!

Vaughn and Beno are about the same class of shooter ingame, but at least Jacque doesn't play the 2003 Nash D that Beno's famous for.

And I still am. I love Beno- he's one of my favorite Spurs.

I stayed out of this thread so long because I knew how it was going to be.
Just came into on the off chance I was wrong.

I don't like the way Pop managed Beno but I also don't like the way Beno let Pop get in his thoughts and damage his confidence.
Constructive critique in one thing and should be adhered to, but dwelling on anything beyond that is asking for trouble.

I want Beno here but I want him to play and succeed more. Beno may very well need to play somewhere else, for his sake.

You must have missed the Rockets game in Houston in February, when Beno almost singlehandedly got the Spurs back into the game.

Vaughn has been good in the playoffs for the moment.
The only knock on him is that he is 0-3 on midrange jumpers for the moment. he is one or two jumpers made away of being very good.

The only case where I can see Beno plays this year (outside garbage time or injuries) is if Spurs are down by 15 at the end of the third quarter and if Vaughn has been crappy in the first half. Pop can use Beno as the last hope for a comeback because Beno is able to score a lot of points in few minutes.

Beno has almost no future with Spurs. If Spurs find a good prospect PG somewhere, they will try to trade or even bought out Beno. If Spurs can get something for Beno or if they had to include him in a trade to match salaries, they will trade him without a doubt. The only case I can see Beno staying is if Spurs haven't found an interesting prospect as third string PG and haven't found an interesting trade : Beno is better than msot of third string PGs, he has the edge to know Spurs' systems and he doesn't seem to be the kind of guy who will create troubles because he doesn't play.
