I don't think the Mavs will go down 3-1 in this series. They'll come out fired up and hitting all cylanders. I expect Dirk to finally find his game and the Warriors to have an offensive flop.

When (not if) the Spurs do go on to the conference finals and the Mavs do lose (if indeed they do) there will be the naysayers who will say the conference championship and is bull because we didn't have to go through the Mavs. No?

I always enjoy watching the Mavs lose. When we were in Dallas at the last Spurs/mavs game, fans kept saying how they wanted us to beat Phoenix for them so it would be easier. It would be great fun to see the Mavs and their "fans" not get out of the first round. But in reality, I don't think it will happen.
How many times do I have to say that the Spurs don't need to go through Dallas in the playoffs to prove anything. First, Dallas isn't the defending NBA Champion. Secondly, when you talk about West teams vs. their own conference, Dallas is 41-14 overall thus far (regular season and playoffs), while SA is 40-15 (including regular season and playoffs thus far). That's a 1 game difference vs. the West in the regular season and playoffs. Dallas' 67 wins came from going undefeated vs. the East or something. They are average vs. the top West teams, excellent vs. the East.
Spurs will go through Denver, Phoenix, Houston or Utah, and then Chicago or Detroit. That's as good an NBA Championship as any.
