Is Robert Horry a double agent?

Recently I have gotten this funny feeling like there is something just not right with Robert Horry. Maybe my eyes are playing tricks on me, but I feel he is a double agent. When I say "double agent", I infer he has come to the Spurs to do them harm in a sneaky, spy-like sort of way.

I know Horry has a persona as a smart player, a big time crunch shooter, and at times a good defender. I've heard the adage that he has a big bag of veteran tricks he can use to produce a much needed stop here or bucket there. But this is where my point begins.

Is Horry just simply declining? Or is he a secret double agent player, sent here to cost us a win here and there. I am starting to wonder. I had seen several times last season and now a few times this season where Horry has made mistakes or simply looked like he lacked any desire. At times when watching him, he almost looks totally out of the game to the point where I wonder if he's working for someone else.

Last night really had me wondering. Horry lost that rebound to the Griz player right under the basket. He tossed it straight between two other Spurs right to the other team. Ok, I can let one fluke mistake slide. Then near the end he was guarding Wells and if you watched the replay, he looked not to try and challenge Wells' shot whatsoever. Ok, so those are just two mistakes. Poor shooting can be excused too. But on to the kicker. Did anyone else see the rebound where Horry jumped up between two Grix players way too early? It reminded me of the movie "Teen Wolf". You know the part where Michael J. Fox turns into the wolf and is dominating the other team's players. No, Horry is not the "Wolf" here. He is instead the other actors that are portraying the opposing players where they comically miss-time rebounds only to have the "wolf" trampoline in and get the board. How come when Horry went up for that ball that neither of the the other two Griz did? How come they both knew not to jump so early?

Maybe this is a case of just me being too hard on someone who I'd like to see more productivity from. Maybe it's just a tough stint for Horry and he really is trying. Perhaps, or maybe just maybe Horry's jersey should read 005.

It seems he did not challenge WELLS shot, reminded me of last year lakers game where he let kobe shoot an open shot than with 20 seconds left on the shot clock miss a 3 pointer that hit the backboard. On a side note POP in the past 2 games had horry in the 4th quarter instead of Malik, the energy was not their..

He's not a double agent ... but he is sucking. There is no reason that he should be playing in fourth quarters. He hasn't done anything since the Memphis series last season. He isn't clutch anymore and is a horrible rebounder.

Pop can yell as much as he wants, but if he'd go with anyone on the team over Horry in the fourth ... they'd have one at least one of the last two games.

Hopefully the Spurs get over this little experiment.

The problem with Horry is we don't use him right offensively or defensively.

Offensively, he needs to be either

    1) making the entry pass to Duncan on a cleared out side or
    2) running the pick and roll with Tony

Defensively, Pop is for some reason enamored with the idea that Horry can guard big men in the post to give Duncan a rest. It's all he used Rob for against LA last year (asking Horry to guard Shaq was f'in stupid for such a "defensive mastermind"), and most of the time this year I see him being asked to do the same.

If you're not going to use Robert in the above two scenarios on offense, and insist on using him in the above situation on defense, Rob's gonna look like crap out there, and the Spurs are going to suffer from it.

we need horry to hit us some 3's like he did for the lakers in crunch time..

he hit game winners so many times for LA, in the finals vs. the Sixers.....he was so clutch then... i wanna see him practice them a lot and take them in the games

I'd argue our entire team got owned by all of Memphis last night, not just Horry.

Our time spent more time crying to the refs and not enough playing ball. Shut up and play ball.

I don't think calling a player out for poor play is hate. Everybody on the team is supposed to help out. It's a team defensive effort. I just haven't seen that effort from Horry. Maybe he's not being used right, but I just haven't seen the numbers from him that we all know he can put up. I say give Malik more time at this point in the season.

i'm no horry fan, but he does show flashes of hustle that i give him credit for.

i'd rather a 3 from manu, dev, barry, and bruce (corner only please) than horry anyway.

he's good in spots on D vs the big small forwards and lanky fours of the league, but dats it. he gave some good minutes on garnett last year and of course, spreads the floor a bit...but i'd rather he'd be injury insurance on the end of the bench only. more malik and devin please.

Tim Duncan even let Brian Cardinal get a couple of offensive rebounds and put backs against him. The Spurs made Brian Cardinal and Bonzi Wells look like all-stars yesterday.

Rose destroyed Cardinal when they were matched up against each other.

And while turnovers have been a problem in the past with Malik, he's averaging only .6 per game this season.

I used to love Horry but now see him as softer mentally and physically than charmin - the Spurs should have kept Willis and dumped the "double agent". Rose for all his faults is 2x the player Mr. Horry is at this stage of his career.

Last season I went off on Horry in a couple of double-agent rants on the old FSB board. As a matter of fact, after the All-Star break, that was my official nickname for him "Double-Agent". It seemed that he played well enough to steal Malik's minutes late in the season and they mysteriously tanked it in the playoffs. Granted he did decently against Memphis but we were never seriously in danger of losing that series and practically EVERYONE stunk it up in the last four games versus the Lakers. Similar to this season, Horry was mistiming his jumps, throwing bad passes, missing wide open shots and mostly looking calcified on defense except for the occasional good looking blocked shot. But I'm finally starting to believe that it's not a double-agent issue at all. I'm with timvp here. Horry just sucks. He's running on fumes and just doesn't have it anymore. His shot looks bad, his killer instinct is extinct, and I'm starting to wonder if he can even bend his knees anymore since he looks so stiff legged out on the court. Worse yet he's passing up wide open threes because he's lost the confidence or ability to hit them. If he was really a double-agent, there would be no reason to stink it up so early in the season. Horry has officially lost his double-agent tag with me. Hopefully Marks can come back soon so we can give him a try and move Horry back to the 11th or 12th spot in the rotation where he belongs.

Since the story made the rounds again this week --

    Horry or Malone?

I agree though, Horry's play is making me long to see Marks and LJ3 in action.
