Those aren't asterisks - it's light glinting off the surface of the Larry O'Brien trophy.
If you don't have at least two in your trophy case, it's easy to make that mistake.
The 1999 * is re ed. Phil Jackson made it seem like only the Spurs benefited from a shortened season. It was the same for everyone! Besides, the 1999 playoff team was our most dominant team ever. We kicked everybody's ass and it didn't matter who we were going to play, we were going to destroy them. We only lost 2 games the whole playoffs!
Good job Spurs. You just went out and beat a short-handed team like you were supposed to. Don't let all the haters ruin the fun of another championship run. Just be glad you didn't run into the juggernaut that is the Dallas Mavericks. The best team, the best fans.
