I'm guessing the right answer should probably be both.
But right this second, Bowen>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Avery in my eyes.
Which of these two player's number should be retired by the Spurs? Not both, just one.
Avery Johnson
Bruce Bowen
I'm guessing the right answer should probably be both.

yea, gotta go with Bowen.
Would the Spurs have either of the les, 2003 or 2005 without Bruce? Would they have advanced past the Suns and still have a shot at another le without Bowen? In my opinion what Bowen has given the Spurs and the crap he's taken it would be a grave injustice to not someday retire his number.
Bowen all the way baby!
Avery just had a "tainted" championship.
Bruce has 2 good ones.
My favorite player, Bruce "Ninja" Bowen.![]()
Bowen!!! I don't know about Avery at all. His thing with the Mavs will always be an issue in my eyes
Being the coach of the Mavs has nothing to do with the issue of his jersey being retired here. That would be an extremely childish way of making the decision in my opinion.
What I do consider pertinent is that he just wasn't very good. He hit one huge shot in the Finals (over my yelling at him to not shoot it which probably could be heard all the way in NYC) and was otherwise "solid" at best. Not worthy of retirement.
Bruce should be a shoo in.
In all honesty... if Sean's is retired then Bruce's should be. Sean hit 'the' shot and had a kidney transplant... but other than being popular that's about it. Bruce has been all world defender for several years.
Asking this when everyone is still in the Bowen afterglow is silly.
The Roach. He was the "leader" of our teams when he was here. Plus he went through more adversary.
Bruce and who is the oher man you are comparing?![]()
Bruce Bowen, no hesitation at all.
Avery's an influential player in DRob's era, but he didn't really help big Dave getting over the hump until TD's around. Bowen ? Spurs D in the post DRob era is characterized by his relentless effort night in and out, helping the team got 2 rings along the way. IMHO, Bruce's a much better teammate to boot -i don't really like in your face approach that Avery has been proud of in his time. Not to mention his willingness to sacrifice the $ for the better of the team, something i haven't seen from Avery as a Spur -correct me if i'm mistaken.
TIM, AJ, TONY, BRUCE AND MANU They should all be retired when its said and done.
Bowen, no questions asked. Bowen might be the most underrated Spur of all-time. He's not as far away from Manu and Tony in terms as being valuable over the last five seasons as some would think.
