    Just heard it on ESPNnews.

Sounds like a good idea to me. They should make him a full time coach, so that we can also start working towards the 2006 World Basketball Championships.

no. He already proved he can't handle egos last year.

Plus, our national team wouldn't have the time to learn the triangle, which was his saving grace.

If he isnt coaching in the NBA as welll...this would be great.

Might as well have a coach were the national team is his main priority year round...it certainly couldnt hurt..and triangle or not....Jackson has the credentials.

Pop deserves to be the head coach for the next Olympics. He's put in the time.

I'm sure NBA officials and players can't wait for Phil's next tell all book about his Olympic's experience.

Let's take a look in the crystal ball of sports quotes:
"I think Argetina's gold medal should have an asterisk since Jordan, Shaq, and Kobe weren't here to cover up what a little I am."-Phil Jackson

Normally we can count on Duncan going 10 for 10 with his chip shot off the glass...He went 8 for 10...It just was not like him....I told him to find his inner Zen... Timmy just looked back at me with a puzzled look on his face...I could tell he was lost...

Lebron was another problem...he had never heard of me...Sure he was familiar with Jordan. But not the man who made Michael great and took him to the plateau that MJ will always be remembered...

Lebron was a selfish player...A ball hog...He kept taking shots when there were only two seconds left on the shot clock....I told him “run the triangle & pass to SHAQ”...

He would holler back at me....”Coach”.... “Shaq is not on this team”...

Why couldn’t my assistants tell me that Shaq was in Miami? A coach needs to know these things....

Tex Winter would have to come along in his Rascal to pull Phil's huevos out of the fire. Also, scratch Kobe off the team.

I'll say this much -- if USA Basketball has any hope whatsoever of convincing Tim Duncan to take one more run at a gold medal, it would be wise to appoint Popovich as the coach. I have a hunch that Tim's refusals to play internationally might be reconsidered if Pop were running the show.

Quote: "Pop deserves to be the head coach for the next Olympics. He's put in the time."

Normally, I would agree with you TimVP. The only problem is that Pop already coaches the Spurs, and ideally our National Team would have a full time coach. Since Phil is unemployed, he would be a better option.

The team will never be full-time, unless you want a bunch of college has-beens on it.

Pop's put in the time, give him the reigns.

That's my point. Of course the team itself isn't full time, but the entire process needs to be full time. A coach has to spend all of his time evaluating his own players, along with scouting and evaluating other teams.

Pop deserves the reins. Jackson is not a bad choice but Popovich is a better choice. He knows the international game as well as anyone in USA Basketball, although Adidas makes valid points about what should be done.

Nah, a lot of that stuff can be delegated. Full time assistants? Sure. Full time head coach? Not necessary.

the triangle o is all phil knows
and he does only know that with tex

12 weeks is not long enough to learn the triangle

again why is their a need to be a full time coach
the system has worked in the past
does the usa have to blow the other countries away?
it is just the games. it is suppose to be just for fun

everyone knows the NBA is where it is at not the games

you know back in time teams did not scout each other

why should the usa team need to scout

some of those players play in the nba already
it is not like they have not seen them play

What part of the no need to scout, 12 weeks is plenty of time system was it that worked so damn well in Athens? In years past you'd be right, no need to scout against teams who were lucky to have one legitimately world class player on their team. But things have changed a lot since Barcelona. Basketball has truly gone worldwide and as a result the compe ion is much, much stiffer. Some people would like to write off the Athens games as a fluke or a really bad shooting slump, but at the end of the day Team USA got outplayed.

No need for Duncan to play if they won't let him stay on the court.

The NBA will not pick Jackson. Don't be surprised if it is not Wade's or James's coach. They want the kids to shine. I for one am glad Tim won't play, he will be too tired after a MVP in the NBA finals.
