Any chance Finley would opt out after this season and then re-sign with the spurs, for less money than the 3mil. he would earn next year? That could give the spurs more options this summer...

Isn't Cuban's waiver payout reduced by whatever salary Michael's current contract is paying?

What if Michael opt outs out of his $3M contract with the Spurs, then re-signs a Spurs contract for token $1. Does that mean Cuban has top up Michael for $3M more than this year?

    no

cuban only has to honor the contract that he and finley has signed when he was waived or bought out, that is only cubans obligation on the outstanding amount owed on finleys contract. Finley and spurs contract has nothing to do with cuban.

It gives them no additional options. They are over the cap so their options are to sign players to one of the salary exceptions, or trade existing players or picks for other assets. That doesn't change if Finley signs for less. They're still over the cap.

If Finley were to opt out, it would be for more money, not less.

$3M is nothing for a player of his caliber.
