Sounds like a plan, guy is very Bowen-esque, but with a much better offensive game. Question is how much do you think it would cost to bring him in
James Posey | SF
Born: Jan 13, 1977
Height: 6-8 / 2,03
Weight: 217 lbs. / 98,4 kg.
College : Xavier (Ohio)
Years Pro: 7
Info
Solid outside shooting and rebounding small forward. Played quality defense on Nowitzki in the '06 Finals. Only 30. If the Spurs' options to improve this summer will be as limited as the forum believes they will be then it seems natural that the Spurs would head back to Miami to pick up another 3.

I'll bite. He might not be the SF of the future...but he could definitely be one for the next several years while we train up somebody like McGuire.
It just all depends on the $$$
He'd be my choice if we don't get a SF in the draft. And Ime Udoka.
Now James Posey is a dirty player. If the Spurs are going to keep up this image, they better go out and get some players who actually try to hurt you.
Depending on the cir stances, Posey would be interesting if only for the job he did on Dirk in the 2006 Finals.
A guy like Posey would make a lot of sense. While Bruce is showing few, if any, signs of his age, adding another wing who could play solid D to help limit his minutes in the regular season would be a good idea.
In addition, Posey's a guy who could really take off in San Antonio's team defensive scheme. He's always been a good on-ball defender, but never had a defensive player like Duncan behind him to funnel the opponent into.
His value should be at an all-time low right now. It would be really nice to have that long swingman this team has desperately missed since letting Jack walk.
Poseys great on the rare occassions hes healthy.
What about Alonzo Mourning? That guy is a block machine.
How much do we think he will go for in free agency this year? Is he restricted?
Hes under contract next year for about 3 mil
I'd take Posey for the vet minimum or at the most the LLE.
if he's cheap then why not? we have to be letting quite a few players leave this summer
Posey averages over 73 games per year. Manu should be so healthy. He actually played 83 games in 02-03 for two teams after being traded.![]()
porcy maybe a good choice to replace bowen, but the only problen is $$$$$
Tpark, just stick to personal insults, at least until you can find a basketball for dummies book to help your cause.
Well said. I'll give another reason to sign Posey up - recall the job he and his fellow mates did on Dirk in the 2006 NBA Finals versus the lil' Mavs. Posey got up in his grill and frustrated him; kept him on the perimeter and played solid one-on-one D on the big German.
Posey is a good transitional option at the SF position.
He has a nice knee-to-the-nuts, a sweet achilles kick, and a pretty fearsome forearm shiver. Should fit in nicely on Team Thug Life.
Posey is the same age Bowen was when he signed here...six years ago.
I always thought Posey got screwed. He and Marion came out in the same draft, ad were virtually the same player. Marion goes to PHO and plays with Kidd, Marbury, and Nash. Posey goes to Denver, Houston when they sucked hard, Memphis before they were good, and then finally a good team in Miami. The big difference, to me, is that Posey puts up better numbers in the post-season than his regular season numbers, unlike Marion.
Bitter chump forum.
Sorry, that was meant as two comments.
First: You said that Posey would play better with a decent shotblocker behind him like Duncan. I replied, "What about Alonzo?" meaning I think Zo is a great shotblocker and that comment might not be completely accurate.
Second: I asked how much Posey would go for contract-wise this summer, not Zo.
Sorry, I realize now that must have been confusing.
Ok gotcha. Thats the question I have as well, I really dont think he would command a huge contract. But he did just com e off a year where he made about 6 and a half mil, but if he thinks he is going to get close to that again he will have a long off season
I think he can be had for somewhere between vet min and half the MCE (approx $3M) per season. At 30, and as primarily a defensive specialist, I don't really view him as a player teams are going to fight over to sign. So many teams aren't even using their MCEs these days, and if they have cap room, they're probably going to spend it on a scorer.
Posey makes Bruce look like this guy...
but black.
I think Zo can opt out of his contract and sign with another team. I'd be highly interested if he rectified last year's mistake and called the Spurs.
I doubt he'll want to leave the Miami area at this stage of his career.
