Tom Orsborn: Utah's Williams misses practice

SALT LAKE CITY - A case of stomach flu prevented Utah's star point guard Deron Williams from practicing Sunday morning, a team spokesperson said.

Williams is listed as probable for Game 4 of the Western Conference Finals, set for 8 p.m. Monday. The Spurs hold a 2-1 lead in the best-of-seven series.

Williams, who scored a game-high 31 points in the Jazz's 109-83 victory over the Spurs on Saturday night,
informed team trainers of the illness after he arrived at the club's training facility for practice.

"He was feeling sick, so they gave him something for it and sent him home," the spokesperson said. "He should be OK, but the thinking was, 'Why push it?' "

The Spurs held a four-point lead at halftime of Game 3, but Williams scored nine points and dished out three assists in the third period to help the Jazz outscore the Spurs 32-20 for a 75-67 lead entering the fourth.

Williams added nine more points in the final 12 minutes as Utah outscored the Spurs 66-36 in the second half. The 26-point loss was the Spurs' worst of the season.

"He's played some great basketball for us," Jazz coach Jerry Sloan said of Williams, whose Game 3 performance also included a game-high eight assists, a game-high five steals, one block and only two turnovers in nearly 38 minutes

Whenever Jordan was sick, he played better. As long as you are not totally dehydrated, it might not be so bad; it makes you kind of annoyed, and so you might be more aggressive. On the other hand, if you feel low energy, then good luck.

If both Finley and Oberto are hurt, I'm afraid we are done; they have been too important to our overall team. We could recover from one of them being out, but both reduces the margin for error too greatly.

Let's hope that none of our Spurs will catch the stomach virus.

Williams gets medicine for stomach flu and sent home

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Associated Press

SALT LAKE CITY -- Utah Jazz point guard Deron Williams sat out practice Sunday because of a stomach illness and is considered probable to play Game 4 of the Western Conference finals against the San Antonio Spurs on Monday night.

    Williams

Williams had 31 points, eight assists and five steals in Utah's 109-83 victory Saturday night that got the Jazz back into the series, 2-1.

"You saw by his performance last night that he makes us go, so obviously we want him to be well," fellow starting guard Derek Fisher said. "We'll be concerned if he's not able to play. Right now is such a taxing time. Guys are really expending themselves. After each game, you're just kind of depleted."

Jazz officials said Williams came to the team's practice facility but was given medicine and sent homehttp://sports.espn.go.com/espn/print?id=2884275&type=story

Stomach flu? Williams probably just celebrated a bit too much after the big victory.

    He'll be fine.

He prolly was hangin is all. I hope he plays at full strength tomorrow. The Spurs, if they truly are on course for their 4th championship, should be able to get a game in Utah.
