They're still ing??
Just think if they ever got to the finals a lost they would be ing well into the next season.
It's from a few weeks ago, but I had to share.

26 million Consumers vs. 6 Million Consumers
For some reason the NBA is in love with small market San Antoinio. I couldn't put my finger on it entirely until I realized even though San Antoinio is small...it is in the gigantic Texas market (comparable to California and New York).
Obviously there must be a lot of "closet" Spurs fans in metro Houston and Dallas and all over the state buying Chevy's and Bud-Lite (commericials that pay the bills for ABC, ESPN, and TNT).
Heck with both the Dallas Mavs and Houston Rockets out of the playoff race (both Texas teams), the NBA "knows" and figures Texans' all over the state will be "tuning in" to view a local state team win a Championship. Texas as a whole is a huge market spending lots of dough on American product(s).
Arizona with only 6 million in the entire state can't compete with the Texas consumer of over 23 million.
23 MILLION consumers in Texas! That there is a lot of trucks, beer and Tim Duncan jerseys that will sell.
San Antoinio will win in 6!
Why? Because the league has been and will always be "fixed". Listen to and hear this FACT. There hasn't been a "non-huge market" team win the NBA Championship since over 30 years ago.
Two Suns starters (Amare and Diaw) will be suspended for Wed. game guarenteeing a Spurs victory all because San Antoinio's Robert Horry "body checked" two-time MVP Steve Nash in the final minutes of the game. Complete chicken-**** and dirty play, but the league ironically will penalize the Phoenix Suns for doing nothing while the Spurs thugs get a way with murder. Game 6 in San Antoinio will go down as one of the worst officiated games ever as the Spurs route the Suns winning the series.
Congrats to the Spurs for "playing" the Jerry Springer slash "politically correct" system-society we live in today, and good luck against Detroit in the Finals.
It's all about which market generates the most "sales" kids. Don't let them kid ya.
Funny how I'm pissed (even though the Suns won)!!!

roflmao, keep complaining and insisting that the league is fixed, that will sure win you a championship. Or, ya'll could learn to play some DEFENSE.

What a tool. If you're gonna claim that the league loves the Spurs for market reasons at least cook up a reasonable theory. There aren't a lot of 'closet' Spurs fans in Houston. I'm pretty sure of it. Why not that the league is all over the Spurs because of the international direction Stern is trying to take the league? If it weren't for Stern's greed and his attempts to entrench a fanbase in the Carribean, Slovenia, South America, Holland, and France, Stern never would have suspended Amare and handed the Spurs the series! That would make a lot more sense than hidden fans in Texas.
You mean like the Mavs?
It's an old post.
And one from someone who obviously doesn't live in Texas. Houston and Dallas are composed primarily of bandwagon fans who hop on when teams are winning and follow other sports when they are losing. Additionally, given the bitterness of the late rivalry, it is unlikely that Dallas fans will tune in unless there is a widespread possibility of the Spurs losing. That? might be worth tuning in for, but only for those who are actually involved enough with the Mavs to care. Most don't.
Additionally, I can tell you from direct experience that here in Houston, where the rivalry is less intense because the teams haven't met in the post-season in a long time, many folks might amicably wish the Spurs well as a Texas team (and there is some truth to rooting for the Texas team, no matter where I am), but few are so motivated that they begin watching the series, let alone buying Spurs merchandise. Again, the only people here watching are diehard Spurs fans and those who like basketball for the sake of basketball.
The reality is that the 23 million people in Texas are by far and away foot ball fans and unlikely to tune in to watch a mutligame series in basketball simply because a Texas team is playing. Football has the advantage of being only 1 game, so more people will watch. Baseball fans tend to watch regardless, but there are more widespread Astros and Rangers fans throughout Texas than basketball fans, since central Texas doesn't have a major league team.
It's amazing what lengths fans will go to in order to excuse their team for losing.
So nobody was a fan of the Bulls when the Jordan era was here? Why? Because the league has been and will always be "fixed". Listen to and hear this FACT. There hasn't been a "non-huge market" team win the NBA Championship since over 30 years ago.

Or the Lakers 3 yr run? Once the Kings, Clipps and GSW are eliminted, Cali's a big market too.
This just goes to show how bad the NBA is marketing their product.
26 million in Texas alone, and the Spurs/Jazz can't even beat the viewers of a rained-out Indie 500?
Pathetic.
Not to state the obvious but San Antonio isn't a huge market team. Stern would have gave himself a BJ if the Suns had made it to the Finals. I think he would just die from elation if the Lakers & Suns could be in the WCF every year.
This guy's a tool.
Oh, and fans in Houston & Dallas? LOL. I live in Houston, I can't find anyone that even admits to watching or liking basketball. Yao? Yao who?

blah, blah, blah idiot forgot the international aspect of the game.
Everytime I get on Steve Kerrs blog after a Spurs game, those morons are still whining, pouting, crying foul. Its ridiculous
See: Los Angeles Lakers, 1999-2000, 2000-2001, and 2001-2002 NBA Champions. There hasn't been a "non-huge market" team win the NBA Championship since over 30 years ago.
This is shaping up to be the most satisfying Spurs series win ever. It just keeps paying dividends.
This has more to do with the teams playing and nobody outside of those 2 markets wanting to watch, not a result of the marketing by the NBA. There is only 1 marketable player left playing right now, and that is LeBron. He may not be the best left playing, but far and away the most marketable, sorry to say, and I know that won;t go over well with all you Spurs fans.
I know I'm just one person, and a Suns fan at that, so I will be bashed I'm sure, and that's ok, but aside from obviously watching Suns games in this playoffs, I watched the Mavs-Warriors, and Bulls-Heat. I watched a couple Bulls second round games, and 1 second round Warriors games, and even though those teams don't have the big player like Lebron, they run more and keep things exciting, and thus draw in viewers more than a Spurs/Jazz game. Now with all those teams out, I have yet to watch more than 1 quarter of any of the conference finals games, and obviously, a larger majority of people around the country share my feelings on the remaining teams and games.
Spurs are a great team, just cannot draw many viewers, never have.
And to the thread starter, making the statement about a non-huge market team not winning in over 30 years is just laughable. The market consists of the city and its suburbs, not the state. San Antonio was never picked by the NBA to win after the first round, because Phoenix and the Bay Area are much bigger markets than San Antonio, they just won because they are better than Phoenix right now and are also better than Utah. San Antonio is not a HUGE market, nor is Detroit, Miami is somewhat, but not even up to Phoenix size. The top 6 markets in the country are New York, Chicago, LA, Dallas, Houston, Phoenix. They are biggest size and largest media markets, Miami is up there, but not quite with those 6, so the market size has nothing to do with San Antonio beating Phoenix and Utah, the TV ratings are showing it.
Just curious. Are you confusing me, the starter of THIS thread, to the starter on the Suns forum which I linked to and whose comments I pasted here? Because that would be, as you say, "laughable" and that person is unlikely to get your message as he is not a part of Spurstalk. And to the thread starter, making the statement about a non-huge market team not winning in over 30 years is just laughable.

Does this mean most people in San Antonio don't have a TV?![]()
Do you have indoor plumbing?
I live in Dallas.
You, the thread starter.
This was the most amusing read of my day. I was especially "impressed" by his "use" of "punctuation."
I'm also glad that he, unlike the cowards in the national media, has gone public about the Duncan jersey-selling scheme that the NBA has concocted.
Finally: Has anyone noticed that there hasn't been a "non-American" team to win the championship in who knows how long? Conicidence? Don't be so naive. Follow the money, Raptor fans, and you'll be shocked at what you discover...
She didn't write that ... she copied it...I thought she made that perfectly clear. Your response should have been directed at the person that actually wrote it.
And like I really give a if no one else in the country likes watching the Spurs.![]()
No kidding, at least consider there are 8 million people in ASA+RGV (considered Spurs territory) and San Antonio's connection to Mexico + South America.
I mean sheesh.
Besides. I know there are a LOT of Suns fans (and Lakers fans) in West Texas. At least by proportion of those I've met.
Uhh.... LA would classify as a HUGE market...
The guy is basically saying that the only people with a shot of winning are extremely large markets like LA, NY, Chicago. I wonder what his demarcation line is on that though.
