Will Mike Brown's knowledge of the Spurs' system and players be a key factor in the series? Could he do to SA/Duncan what Don Nelson did to Dallas/Nowitzki? IMO insider info is useful but it will still be up to the players on the court to execute what the coach tells them so maybe this concern is overrrated.

mike brown: watch out! they passing the ball into duncan!

mike brown: watch out! they're doing pick and roll!

mike brown: no! they pushing lebron to the baseline where they have shot blockers!

i think every coach in the league knows what the spurs are going to do. on the other hand, brown coached under pop and rick carlisle. everybody knows what he's going to do too.

It's not about who knows what, Pop has said everybody knows what everybody else does. It's about talent, execution, desire.

But that won't prevent 20 threads about how the Spurs are screwed because Brown knows everything about the Spurs (no matter how much Pop knows about the Cavs).

nah...it won't help. everyone knows what the Spurs do. Its just hard to stop. to beat the Spurs, you have to hope that they beat themselves. -- Rely too much on the permiter, don't rebound and don't respond to physical play.

Other than that, you are screwed.

    Don Nelson >>> Mike Brown
It's always useful to have some insider information about specific players but honestly I doubt that Brown can make the same use of it as Donnie did. This will be a series of a young energetic and hungry team playing a steady, defensive minded and experienced team.

my left nut could of coached the Cavs to the finals better then Mike Brown

    What does he know?

    Double TD?
clog the lanes so Manu and Parker can't drive in?

like the Karl, D'Antoni, and Sloan didn't already know that

The Spurs are like the Judson Rockets of the 90's. Or for you fans outside of San Antonio a better example would be the Nebraska Cornhuskers of the 90's. You know they are going to run the ball 85% of the time. But can you stop it? The Cavs know what's comin' at them! They won't be able to stop the Spurs!

Isn't Mike Brown's Spurs knowledge about 4 years old? I thought he left right after 2003 to be an Indy assistant....

Egan probably has more Spurs knowledge than Mike Brown.

Mike Brown strikes me as basically just a Rah! Rah! coach.

That's what I was thinking. The Spurs have changed a whole lot since then. New plays, different players, etc. Not the same team at all.

that's one of the dumbest statements i've read on these boards. look at the lineup the cavs have and look at the defense they play. they're a ing awesome defensive team. yeah, there's not much he can do on offense because that team has offensive players. give it to lebron is probably the best anyone can do with that team.

No because i don't think Brown is all that good a coach and he has nowhere near the experience to have any shot at outcoaching pop who is in his 4th finals.

Mike Brown convinced me that he has the championship coaching pedigree by saying "wow" during the ECF Game 5 post game press conference with lots of passion. He said it twice. Sounded nice.

Mike also did a great job saying "boobie" in the presser. That's gotta be the silliest nickname ever. Gibson must insist that get buried as a thank you for his Game 6 performance in the ECF.

So Mike Brown has me convinced that he has the goods to outfox Pop.

The two losses were by only 4 and 7. That was with Vaughn, Finley, and Elson getting limited minutes, Beno and Bonner getting their minutes, Manu struggling, Oberto still trying to fit in, and Mike Brown's dreaded Spurs knowledge. Bring it!

Undoubtedly Mike Brown's, even Danny Ferry's, experience in San Antonio has to be beneficial to Cleveland. But I don't think it'll translate over into wins on the floor. Guys still need to execute, and because I may know that Duncan likes to go left or right or pass or what have you, its another thing to seize the moment and make the stop.

Also the thing that Nelson really knew about the Mavericks wasn't necessarily about the Mavericks, but about Dirk. He knew exactly what kind of defense would confuse Dirk and it worked. While Brown might have known how we worked, Parker, Manu, and Finley are all playing at a higher level right now different from 4 years ago when he was here. Oberto wasn't even here yet.

The Spurs haven't been beating anyone this season by surprising them or tricking them. Brown might have a shot if he had a tape of the game before it started, otherwise he's in the same boat as everyone else.

What exactly will the Cleveland braintrust be able to glean from experiences 4 years ago that they couldn't get from their scouts today? Irrelevant.

I think the true benefit to Cleveland from the ex-Spurs is in the knowledge of the approach to building a team to win a championship, not necessarily in any game tactics.
