    Recap:

Had a funny AJ impersonation from 2003 I guess...they talked about it...said AJ was bossy and got on his nerves, but he said it in a nice way, as he always does

Said the biggest differences between the old Spurs Teams he was a part of and the new one is the shooters....he also said that in a nice way as he always does

Said LeBron is not like anyone really...more of a cross between Jordan and Magic. Said he's huge and a physical mismatch for Bruce, even when he was a rookie. Actually pretty much said he's a physical mismatch for anyone.

Said Duncan was the best PF ever in his opinion but he wasn't familiar with all the ones from 20 years ago...directly put Duncan over McHale and Malone. Told a story about how Duncan is relentless in his pursuit to get better...talked about a video game they used to play. Talked about when he saw Duncan finally put it together.

Said he's about to surpass some of the things Shaq has done (didn't mention if that included a coloring book)

    Spurs in 5...

It was all interview team Dave as always, classy, polite and an ultra nice guy.

It's nice to see that two guys that don't have a clue about team play and must have never seen Drob in his prime, are able to appreciate the team oriented games and mentality of Duncan and Robinson...even if you two aren't exactly bright about how teams win championships...I can tell your dumb little hearts are in the right place.

Nothing pays tribute to David Robinson like saying Duncan won him a ring every time his name is mentioned...classy. I'm sure Drob appreciates it...and I'm sure Duncan does too. The opinions of pett er I mean small people matter too...after all.

Also, absolute comedy that you are now espousing TEAM play, when in every other thread you insist the demise of the Spurs is at hand because of a single player.

Not only did Duncan Win Robinson two rings... he cemented him as a hall of famer...

Whott if Duncan hadn't come along... The Spurs probably wouldn't even have retired his Jersey...

It would be... Gervin, Moore, and Silas...

David is too polite to say what needs to be said. But I'm not. Before Duncan, teams could double and triple down on him because the outside shooting SUCKED.

Let's look at the "star-studded" line ups from before, shall we (I'm forgetting a few here I'm sure, but you'll get the point).

Dale "I used to be clutch until I got to the Spurs" Ellis
    Chuck "Air Rifle" Person
Vinny "I can't believe they're starting me" Del Negro
Vinnie "Notice how microwaves only work for a few minutes at a time" Johnson

Let's not forget Willie Anderson. And Avery, I love him, but whenever he took a jumper, how many of us cringed?

Fact is, along with Duncan, came lots of true shooters who wanted all of those great looks that come along with having two 7-footers inside. Jaren Jackson even became a good shooter for pete's sake (if only for long enough to get one big contract). Why do you think the Spurs have become the team that ringless vets seek to sign with to finally get the ring (see Danny Ferry, Kevin Willis, Tony Massenburg, Michael Finley, etc. etc.).

Simply put, thank you David Robinson. You saved the Spurs franchise many times over. You could have opted out before playing your first season and you did the right thing. You could have demanded a trade when Duncan came in but you did the right thing and deferred. You could have demanded more money all along the way, but you did the right thing and honored your contract. You could have allowed Duncan to walk away to Orlando, but you did the right thing and talked him into coming back. Tim Duncan was already a class individual, but even he will admit, David rubbed off onto him.

Thank you David. For ALL that you've done.

    False!

#!. I don't think the Cavs are a one man team...

    #2. It's more like...we are a no SF team.

We are a flawed, yet talented team...we have no SF.

The Cavs have no similar structural flaws, and their SuperStar just happens to play the position at which we have no defense.

It's really a mistake to consider the Cavs a one man team....especially a one man team as if that one man were a bigman...

The Cavs don't all suck except for LeBron...the pieces fit.

Robinson couldn't take his team to a le. Anyone need proof of this only need to look at the 95 WCF. I love DRob. He's the first Spurs player I remember watching. Followed him his whole career. But he had his best team in 95, and was the MVP, and Hakeem single handedly destroyed Robinson in that series.

Robinson played a huge role in winning the 99 le, but Duncan was the player who got them over the hump. Remember, Duncan is the best Spur to ever play, hands down. Not an insult to Gervin or Robinson, but rather, a testament to Duncan's greatness.

As for the Mike and Mike interview, ESPN usually runs a 30 minute show of the best from the show that morning. It comes out at 1:30 today. I set my DVR to record it as I may be on the road at that point.

Does this argument not say the Spurs will lose because of a single player?

Did the Celtics stop Wilt (or Jordan for that matter)?

The Spurs have had no real answer for Nowitski for years, yet the Mavs only got over when they fleshed out that lineup - and SPECIFICALLY built it to be a Spurs killer, with not only the mismatch, but speed and shooting as well. The Cavs are not that well-rounded or versatile.

I'm a younger Spurs fan (25) but as I said before, Robinson was the first player I really remember seeing when I was young. I was 7 when he came into the league, and I'v e watched him since he was a rookie. I love DRob. The Spurs are here because of him. The foundation for a class organization is here because of him. Tim is here because of him, and stayed because of him. No one will ever discount DRob's contributions to the Spurs and the city of San Antonio.

With that said, we're not disrespecting DRob when we say that Duncan is the best Spur ever. DRob was an athletic freak of nature. He could run with the guards, jump out of the building to catch passes. He had a good mid range jumper. Could grab rebounds and block shots with the best of them. He'd run around you or jump over you to score.

But Duncan is a better player. He puts himself in positions to succeed, and plays a better game all around. As great a defender as DRob was, Duncan is better because he's a smarter defender. You'd never see Duncan jumping around the way DRob was when Hakeem was dream shaking him in 95.

This isn't hating, just stating the truth. We love DRob, but that doesn't cloud our judgment in the DRob/Duncan argument.

There have been some rather in-depth discussions about the 1995 Spurs team and the inherent problems that it had -- problems that were far too easy for a team like the Rockets to exploit in a Conference Final. Those Spurs were horrificly weak at the 2 guard spot, got spotty play from their Loco Rebounder, had no real bench to speak of (go find the numbers for J.R. Reid, Chuck Person, Doc Rivers, and Terry mings in that series and then compare those numbers to what the Rockets got from just Mario Elie and Sam Cassell in that series), and a coach who refused to pull his head out of his ass.

Hakeem Olajuwon played great in that series, but the Spurs didn't lose it because Hakeem outplayed David. There was a great deal more that lead to the Spurs' demise in that series.

David Robinson is, I think, too frequently diminished because of that series.
