I don't know why but somehow this series reminds me of the Lakers-Detroit series back in 2004..the Lakers came into the finals having won three straight championships and were favored by nearly everyone alive, and mainly everyone expected the Lakers to win and predicted the most the series would go would be five games. They seemed unstoppable..especially with the Fantastic Four..Kobe, Shaq, Payton, Malone..

Now its the Spurs coming into the Finals with three championships in a stretch around 8 years, and have made it look easy the entire playoffs. Of course, they're heavily favored against the Cavaliers..who people continue to see as a one man team..and most don't expect this series to 7 games, 5 or 6 games at the most..with San Antonio winning. Detroit barely had any finals experience back then against the Lakers while the Lakers were loaded with championship experience..Spurs are loaded with championship experience and Cavaliers have a coach in his second year as head coach, and hardly any finals experience..

So, honestly Spurs fans..do you guys think you have this won already?

In all fairness, the '04 finals did go five games.

Obviously the Cavs have a chance, going 2-0 against a team like the Spurs is always impressive, regular season or not. That being said, there are major differences between that season and this one. The Cavs ARE a one-man team. The Pistons were the epitome of a team. They were more experienced than the Cavs are, and had a lot more talent and a MUCH better coach than the Cavs have. The Spurs also have better chemistry than that Laker team.

When Marshall is saying that Duncan and the Spurs will have that now-oh-so-popular Lebron dunk in the back of their minds during the series, you know the Cavs are doomed.

    Spurs in 5.

If you are a Laker Fan rooting for the Cavs and you are looking for a comparison that gives you hope, look at the 1991 Lakers vs. Bulls finals.

and overlook that the bulls had homecourt, pippen and horace grant for shutdown defenders, and a hobbled lakers squad in game 5 when byron scott and james worthy got injured.

i don't think malone ever played in that series. what's more, the pistons were actually a better offensive and defensive squad during the reg season than the lakers. they scored more and kept opponents to fewer points.

The comparison occurred (briefly) to me, but like TD4 points out, that Detroit squad was setting defensive RECORDS after the trade for Rasheed that year; AND was coached by Larry Brown AND Malone was injured - not to mention considering what happened to the Lakers a couple of weeks after the finals, I'm betting chemistry wasn't all that good in the locker-room.

I see it more like Philadelphia vs LA in 2001.

Superstar lead defensive team vs the tried and true champions with the best player in the league.

You're comparing oranges to apples. San Antonio has never lost an NBA Finals series. They are too experienced and over match the Cavs by a long shot.

    Team is everything.

There is no "I" in team when it comes to the Cavs.

    Sorry

actually i was thinking more nets-lakers of 02, i think. shining superstar in kidd-lebron, potentially good teammates in jefferson/guy who went to the nugs compared to gibson/gooden; aged centers in z and deke; young couch of byron scott/mike brown. went through pistons in the ecf.

hey dumb laker fan who knows nothing about bball...Your team had four future hall of famers sure...but only ONE BASKETBALL to be hogged by...four future hall of famers...who all thought they could win the game individually...while on the other hand spurs play as a TEAM...and pass for an openshot instead of trying to force...

anything can happen. But I don't think so, and I never would of made that comparison of the 2004 finals. Anyway Laker fan you hadn't won 3 les in a row at the time. In case you forgot the Spurs sent you home crying in 2003 on the way to thier championship.

These Cavaliers are in no way comparable to those Pistons. The 2004 Detroit Pistons were one of a defensive juggernaut and probably could have taken any of the Laker le teams to 7 games.

The 2004 Pistons were also a great TEAM, with great players and a solid bench (Mehmet Okur, Mike James, Hunter?). They had great on court chemistry and every player in their starting five was an perennial All-Star.

These 2007 Cavaliers on the other hand suck outside of LeBron James.

Haha you dumbasses. It's a simple typo I made at around 2 AM and you guys start taking it to the heart insulting me. Obviously I meant in 2000, 2001, and 2002. I know the Spurs won in 2003, I have the championship DVD, duh. Just a simple typo, didn't neccesarily mean what it seemed.
