Fox News Apologizes for Tape Goof
Tuesday, June 05, 2007
By DAVID BAUDER, AP Television Writer
NEW YORK — Fox News Channel apologized on-air Tuesday for running tape of a different congressman while reporting Monday on the indictment of Rep. William J. Jefferson on bribery charges.
The network ran footage of House Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers of Michigan instead of Jefferson. Both congressmen are black.
Fox blamed the mistake on a 22-year-old production assistant hurriedly grabbing a wrong videotape. Fox's Washington bureau chief, Brian Wilson, said he was mortified by the error.
On Tuesday, Fox News anchor Martha MacCallum said about the Jefferson story: "We mistakenly ran the wrong videotape accompanying that story and we apologize for that error."
The apology apparently wasn't accepted by Conyers.
"Fox News has a history of inappropriate on-air mistakes that are neither fair, nor balanced," he said Tuesday. "This type of disrespect for people of color should no longer be tolerated. I am personally offended by the network's complete disregard for accuracy in reporting and lackluster on-air apology."
Wilson said he called Conyers' office on Tuesday to apologize. He said he spoke to a press secretary and asked what he could do to make amends, including coming to Conyers' office to apologize in person. No one got back to him, he said.
Conyers' press representative, Melanie Roussell, said the congressman was upset that Fox's on-air apology did not say specifically what the mistake was.
Fox News Channel has become a political issue itself recently, with Democratic presidential candidates refusing to appear in a debate sponsored by the network.

I think it would be best for everyone concerned if we simply categorized all content from FOX News as "entertainment"...sort of a Colbert Report without self-awareness.
Kind of like John Stewart with out the self congradulation and kiss ass of a pathetic audience.
Stewart and Colbert are entertaining.
Since i am talking about only stewart, yes i agree.
I agree, having the freedom of denying trying to pass propaganda on the basis of it being done under the guise of s and giggles knowing full well that a good portion of your audience does take you seriously as hard news, and then ing about other programs as dividing the nation and raising more partisan hatred, while acting like an indignant self congradulating attention , is very entertaining. But i think writing run on sentences is more entertaining, respectful and relevant to this thread.
I do like Colbert by the way.
Yeah, "The Daily Show" would be much more watchable if they nixed the live studio audience for the canned laughter they use on "The 1/2 Hour News Hour". Even Dennis Miller is funnier when he's being interviewed by Jon Stewart than when he gets to sermonize on the Fox News clone.
I'm glad that the Daily Show> 1/2 hour whatever it is, gives you assurance that your on the good guy's side. Rah Rah!!
Repeat after me: Comedy Central.
Fox News Channel has a similar show.
Is your opinion of that show the same?
I watch Stewart/Colbert for laughs; If I ever needed assurance that I'm on the "good guy's side" I could always tune into Hannity or O'Reilly for a few minutes.
1/2 newshour was hilarious
the neocon daily show that wasnt meant to be funny
they did find the smuggest actors ive ever seen though
thats what made it good, the 1 time i saw it
How DARE you impune the journalistic credibility of Comedy Central!
I'm sorry, Fox News's crappy comedy show does not compare to the Daily show.. John stewart is still a self loving attention blowhard and the audience that takes his comedy show serious is pathetic wether Fox news has a cooking show, or a samurai bike expo
Yeah, the "1/2 Hour Newshour" show was inadvertantly hilarious. I can't think of another show that was a parody of itself right out of the gate.
Inasmuch as the Fox show isn't in any way good, I agree.
Good one ass, John Stewart's indignant blowhard ass and Comedy Central are too different en ies.
I hope once you get off kissing Chumps ass you'd see the difference.
The neocons really need to read their own posts these days. This stuff is gold.
Kind of Like Xray could turn to Olberman and Matthews to know that he's not clinically re ed as being an example of what you do to make you think your ideology is superior. You compare your ideology by watching the lowest form of the opposite.
I think comparing penises with ants is another hobby of yours aswell.
The lib s not need to feel butthurt when a fellow board member does not own a John Stewart dildo.![]()
"indignant blowhard" describes just about every opinion pundit on TV, from O'Reilly to Olbermann...why does the fake news comedian irk you so much?
I don't feel anything but incredulous at this latest thread-hijack breakdown over a comedy show.
This guy interjected a comedy show first in this thread and then continued to cry over the dominance of the Daily show to the 1.44 hour show, essentially arguing with himself becuase no one is defending the other show.
And now he's incredulous about being incredulous.
Lib s 1
1.5 hour show 0.
Scoreboard es!!!
I have no problem with Colbert , this isn't about Comedy Central.
I actually love fake news comedians, Dan Rather takes all.
But i just don't like Fake people news comedians. That's Stewart.
