Only 31 combined free throws for the game. Players were "allowed" to play defense. It was refreshing to see! I got a feeling it won't continue this way, but I can hope.
It was noticable to me that the officials seemed to be calling more violations and offensive fouls than putting guys on the line with bailouts.
I thought it was a well officiated game.
Look for Javie and Callahan (at least) to call Game 5. Mauer might join them for that game.
I didn't see too many bad calls either way. If it goes like this the whole series, I'll be happy.
My wife thought the Manu flagrant was BS (she's a Suns fan), but I thought it was legit.
The flagrant wasn't really much of a foul, although Gooden did hit the back of Manu's head. As it turned out, Manu only made 1 FT and then the Spurs didn't convert on their possession so it ended up having no impact on the game.
The flagrant was a mistake but otherwise they weren't too noticeable which is a great thing.
I'll take this kind of game over one where there are 72 FTs any time.
Remember the Spurs/Mavs game a few years back where there were a combined 99 free throws? !!!
The thing with the flagrant is that it looked a lot worse in real-time. I thought he had grabbed Manu's neck. Clearly, he only hit him on the shoulder, but I think he got the flagrant for swinging his arm at Manu like he did. I think his intention was to take Manu down anyway, he just didn't grab him in time.
