Its takes two to win

Ok if the Spurs do win this fourth Championship they will be in the company of three other teams in history that have won at least four or more. Here they are...


Bulls

Lakers

Celtics

Spurs


Thats it, only four and here are our spurs, impressive to say the least a small market team being dominate in there era.

Now the popular belief is that a team must have two superstars (Hall of Famers) to be multiple champions. Lets have a look and see where Ducan stands in the mix.

Lakers..Magic had Kareem...two (hall of famers)

Celtics.. had Bird and Mchale two (hall of famers)

Bulls.. Jordan had Pippen two ( hall of famers)

Lakers... had Kobe and Shaq two ( hall of famers)

Shaq also had Wade to carry him to a fourth le and possibly a hall of famer
as well

Spurs.. Duncan has never had any players even close to a hall of famer
Only Robinson was there when Duncan arrived, Robinson never won a le without Duncan, if Ducan wins four he will have done two with Robinson and two without. Plus people who know spurs history knows that Robinson was a aging player at the time Duncan step foot on court.

While other players had much better rosters and more help to win championships, Duncan has done it with less and done more. This era belongs to Duncan.

I have to disagree here.

Give it some time and Horry, Bowen, Manu and Parker may all be HOF material when it's all said and done.

Horry is pretty famous around the league and will have 7...maybe 8 rings.

Bowen is a defensive stopper that has been named to all defensive team several times.

Manu is only 29 and has already won two rings with a good PPG average.

Parker is only 25 and me the finals MVP this year and has already made the all star team.

I know I'm just pleading my case here...but I would like for all of these guys to have their numbers retired in San Antonio....at the least.

Well, I don't think you have to have two players that fall into the "superstar" category. But you do need the right players to compliment your superstar. In that, the Spurs have been awfully lucky, bringing in Parker and Ginobili, and getting probably more than they bargained for when they brought them in.

Then throw in Bowen who has been a monster on defense for the spurs, basically being their "star killer" on defense, and you must admit either the FO is doing one of a job, or the they have gotten awfully lucky with their picks along the way. Actually I suspect it is a combination of both. That's why I'm never big on knocking decisions the FO makes regarding player personnel. As long as they continue to put together a contender every year, I don't see how we can knock them.

But every team isn't quite this lucky. What would James be with a Tony and Manu on his team? Probably unstoppable. What would the Lake Show be like with them playing alongside Kobe...Again, probably unstoppable....

We have indeed been fortunate to find the right pieces to go with Duncan, so that we are always at the top of the league. Let's hope the day never comes when we have to see what it's like to have one superstar and no good complimentary players with him.

If Pippen or McHale counts as a 'it takes two' then you have to count Ginobili and/or Parker in the mix.

Hard to find too many stars of championship teams that didn't have at least one other member of the 50 Greatest Players on the roster. Off the top of my head:

Isiah in 1988 and 1989
Hakeem in 1994
Shaq in 2000-2002 (though Kobe made the Next 10, presented by TNT in 2006)
The 2004 Pistons
Duncan in 2005

Pretty exclusive company, I'd say.

Of the Spurs non-Duncans, I still argue that Ginobili has the best chance of reaching the Hall of Fame, if only because of his exploits in international play. Get him 3 NBA rings (or more) to go along with a Gold Medal in the Dream Team era and consistent selection to the All-Tournament teams at the World Championships and his resume is awfully good.

He's got a better chance, I'd argue, than Horry does.

If Parker gets much better and keeps it up for the years that follow, he has a very decent chance of getting in the HOF...
Manu is in for his world dominance.
Tim is the closest thing to a lock that you can get.

Horry in my opinion deserves it, and if they finally repeat next year, its hard to argue with eight rings. One for every finger. (who wears rings on their thumbs anyways?)
