I would say Devin Brown should come back. I feel that Finley and Barry haven't done a whole lot this offseason...
Assuming we are looking for a long 3/4 type.
Prolly out of our $ range
Rashard Lewis
Gerald Wallace
Possibles
Desmond Mason
Matt Barnes
Sasha Pavlovic
Devin Brown
I would say Devin Brown should come back. I feel that Finley and Barry haven't done a whole lot this offseason...
I don't think the Cavs would part with him but I would like Pavlovic here.
I would still love to have Nocioni on the team, improbable as it is.
Of those Brown, Pavlovic, and Mason are remotely possible.
What would you guys think about Eduardo Najera? It would take MLE type money but he is definitely a long 3/4 hard nose defender in the Spurs mold. He doesn't have Bruces 3 point range and at 31 probably won't ever get it but he sure brings a lot of energy when he hits the floor.
No to Nads. We don't need another old guy that has no offensive game.
Najera is a total stiff and I don't want him anywhere NEAR this team.
Devin brown would replace Brent Barry very easily.
Id like Pietrus more than Barnes honestly.
I think Mason would be a great fit. He is unbelievably athletic, long, and very good defensively (learned defense from Sutton). He was born and raised in Waxahachie. And I don't think he will be very expensive at all.
Just think, if we get him, we will have 2 former Sonics who were Slam Dunk Champs.
The problem with Mason is he cannot shoot a lick.
I like Devin too but so does New Orleans. They could easily outbid us although Devin would probably like to be back in SA I doubt he would give up the $$$'s to come back.
No.
No.
No.
and No.
Thuguardo is a cancer and a dip . I still remember him fouling out of Game 1 WCF in 2003 in less than 15 mins.
He does not DESERVE to be a Spur.
That's not true at all. He shot 46% this year, right in with Prince, Miller, Jefferson, Sasha, Lewis, Nocioni and Magette.
He averaged 14/5 last year playing 3rd fiddle to Paul and West.
If you are referring to the fact he doesn't shoot 3s, that would be correct. In 6 years pro, he has shot only 251. Last year, in 75 games, he shot 0. The combined 2 years prior, he shot 14. He is a finisher and a cutter, not a 3-point shooter.
Literally, Mason does not shoot jump shots. Look at his shooting charts - everything he ever shoots is a layup or dunk.
I like Pavlovic and Barnes out of that list. Wallace/Lewis are going to be too much money, but I wouldn't take Lewis anyway. I really want Pietrus or Nocioni though. They would be great fits here. I don't think they are free agents.
They are both FAs.Pietrus or Nocioni though. They would be great fits here. I don't think they are free agents
Pavlovic IMO would be fantastic.
He would be a great fit on this team.
Agreed. But some dumbass GM is going to throw a lot of money at Barnes after his playoff showing, so I wouldn't be too hopeful. Pavlovic's stock also seems to be on the rise as he can shoot the 3 and drive the ball.
If they can swing a Nocioni S-&-T without losing any major pieces, that'd be the perfect offseason
Well those are pretty high % shots so............
I've been saying that since the playoff run for the Warriors started. But some dumbass GM is going to throw a lot of money at Barnes after his playoff showing, so I wouldn't be too hopeful
Someone like Orlando, or Memphis is gonna give him a load of cash.
The Warriors are loaded at the forward position so we'll see what happens with Pietrus.
Pavs will get a big bump too ... prolly out of Spurs salary-cap challenged range.
All the better, then. I actually think Nocioni would be better just because he has more size for his position, that would give him a defensive/offensive advantage against a lot of teams. Pavlovic can definitely shoot and drive, and he's an OK defender. I really hope the Spurs go after them, but who know's what the management will do, after all they signed Elson, Vaughn, and Butler in last year's offseason.
I don't know if Pavlovic will get more than the mid-level. That goes for Pietrus and a bunch of others too. There are actually very few teams with space under the cap enough to make legitimate (eight-figure) moves.
The ones I predict will get more than mid-level...
Chauncey Billups
Rashard Lewis
Vince Carter
Gerald Wallace
And maybe Mo Williams and Andres Nocioni...
As a general comment on this next off-season and the MLE that the Spurs have to spend, I'd say that it will be paced by one FA....
Luis Scola. If the Spurs can work out a contract with Luis, it significantly impacts the amount of money that can be spent on other prospective FAs. If his rights are traded, then who the Spurs go after will largely be determined by what they received in return for Scola's rights.
Bottom Line: Summer 07 is about one man...Luis Scola
