Thankfully, these weren't the top-tier terrorists we're killing in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Sounds like this is some newby who lit the fuse while he was driving down the street or was on a suicide mission with a defective bomb.

That's why we're fighting them over there...it's where their best and brightest are. You lefties think that just anybody can assemble a quality car bomb and drive themselves to paradise. Oh no, not true.

    Exhibit 1.

So Europe is basically the farm system for terrorists to learn their craft before heading over to the Middle East? Kind of like the NFL Europa of terrorism, I guess.

Apparently the bomb could have done some real damage, and it's fortunate that some alert fire fighters were in the area at the time to see smoke coming from the car's interior.

And I doubt whoever it is that planted the bomb was concerned with "driving himself to paradise" since the car was empty.

Allegedly, someone changed London's Wikipedia entry to reflect the city's destruction by a bomb, hours before authorities discovered the bomb. When discovered, the anonymous poster said his change to the entry was merely based on rumor and hearsay.

    It was this...
An eyewitness said a man had crashed the vehicle into bins near Tiger Tiger and then ran off, before the alarm was raised.
...and an earlier article (I can no longer find) that suggested the bomber hadn't reached his intended target but had abandoned the vehicle when he accidentally set the fuse to which I attribute my opinion of incompetent terrorist. That article also said the witnesses saw smoke coming from the vehicle when it crashed and was abandoned (suggesting he may have prematurely triggered the fuse or that some other malfunction occurred).

I'm thinking if you're going to set off a car bomb, you're not going to want to draw attention to yourself as you place the device by driving erratically and driving into trash bins.

And, are you seriously arguing al Qaeda hasn't lost some of its best bomb makers and matyrs in Iraq and Afghanistan?

How's the shoe feel now that it's on your foot. This is exactly what "liberals" have done on the war in Iraq. Ignored any positive and accentuated the negative.

I say if we weren't in Iraq and Afghanistan, the bomb-maker in London may have been more competent and, unfortunately, might have succeeded.

My understanding is that they have yet to apprehend the bomb maker. How do even know that this person has ties to the groups we are fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan?

Islamic website predicted London bomb hours before attack on nightclub
Meanwhile, an international manhunt was launched tonight to find the gang - believed to be linked to al Qaeda - that came within moments of blowing up hundreds of revellers in a London nightclub.
Sounds like the same group to me.

Other articles have made the same connection with varying information.

Not really, they've been committing similar attacks since before 9/11 and the invasion of Iraq.

So, no, not just as plausible but, thanks for playing.

I guess the investigation will demonstrate which of us is right though. eh?

you'd probably accuse me of being a "liberal," and am I not accentuating a positive story about the broader war on terror?

that's a good guess, but it seems premature to reach that conclusion.

Why would someone who's about to explode himself (as you suggested was the case) be concerned with how his driving appeared to onlookers?

And, are you seriously arguing al Qaeda hasn't lost some of its best bomb makers and matyrs in Iraq and Afghanistan?
My comments have pretty much been limited to the fact that this is good news. I don't remember making mention of Al Queda or Iraq.

Man, that's going to be people's last impression of you (unless they die in the bomb as well). You don't want to go out looking like an imbecile.

I see your opinion is plausible and mine is not.
See, once again, you've shot to the absolute. I never said your opinion wasn't plausible. I said it wasn't as plausible.

Wow, will you ever learn to quit mischaracterizing the words of others?

Maybe, but hey, it's my guess.

Why would someone who's about to explode himself (as you suggested was the case) be concerned with how his driving appeared to onlookers?
I don't know. Maybe he chickened out. Maybe there's some eternal punishment for ing up a mission and he decided he'd rather face a mad fellow terrorist than a pissed off Allah. How the do I know what goes on in such a twisted psyche?

After all, these people think there's 72 virgins waiting for them if they kill a bunch of innocent people. You think there's anything logical in their reasoning?

My comments have pretty much been limited to the fact that this is good news. I don't remember making mention of Al Queda or Iraq.
    It was lucky news.

My comment wasn't directed specifically at you but an effort to demonstrate this may be "good news" because of our efforts in the greater war on terror.

So, I made it better news. Sue me.
