I was going to post this in the NBA forum, but I know that we had talked about both of these guys being players that the Spurs should target.

    link

The Los Angeles Clippers today waived guard Daniel Ewing and declined to exercise the third-year contract option on forward James Singleton, it was announced by Vice President of Basketball Operations Elgin Baylor.

In two years with the Clippers, Ewing averaged 3.4 points, 1.4 assists 13.3 minutes per game. Ewing was the 32nd overall selection by the Clippers in the 2005 NBA Draft.

Singleton, who originally signed with Los Angeles as a free agent prior to the start of the 2005-06 NBA season, averaged 2.6 points, 2.7 rebounds and 10.1 minutes per game over his two-year career with the Clippers. In a related matter, the Clippers also declined to tender Singleton a qualifying offer, making him an unrestricted free agent as of July 1st.

If we could find the roster space, I would sign him. Probably in the spot that Bonner was in last year

Bigs - ???Oberto resigned?, Duncan, Horry, Elson, Butler, Singleton
Wings - White, Manu, Williams, Finley, Barry, Bowen
PG's - Parker, ???Vaughn resigned???, ???Beno???

The only thing thats changed with Singleton is that Dunleavy camped him on the bench last year. There really isnt new information that should refute anything we'd seen prior. But yeah, no space.

The Spurs aren't on the list of teams that are interested. Hopefully this is simply a case of CIA. I doubt it though.

Singleton is nice, but I think we have enough bigs, I would have rather seen the Spurs take a flyer on Korolev, the Clipps have offered him a 1 year deal for $800,000 & a TO the 2nd year...but it looks like the Clipps are waiting for Francis before finalizing any deal with Korolrv.

    Potato - Potatoe

You think Singleton is a "big" (ie. just a PF, of whom, you are correct, we have plenty). I think Singleton is the mythical Long SF. In some ways (Rebounding, Price), I thought he was a more attractive prospect than Nocioni (much better 3 shooter, argie/history of coming up big in the playoffs)...I'd still like to dump Beno for a TE and a 2nd, and give his spot to singleton.

Maybe, but I could see him being the Small ball PF rather than Bowen/Finley/Barry. Which would buy him (from the top 20 lineups used)

    http://www.82games.com/0607/0607SAS2.HTM
    Lineups 7, 11, 12, 19

111+63+61+31 = 266 minutes (from a total sample of 1976 minutes in the top 20 lineups). This is the equivalent of averaging (266/1976)*48 = 6.5 mpg. And if a Long SF is useful in matchups, he will take some time as an SF as well.

Ewing isn't NBA caliper. Really neither of these would help SA.

    @ Solid.

In Singleton's defense it's probably hard to develop your game playing behind Brand.

I'm sure he'd fare much better on the Spurs.
