Don't be blinded by all these changes. Trade or not, Garnett or not...the Spurs will repeat.

If the Suns OR the Mavs (who are our only threats) get Garnett they will have to part with far too much of their core. Such monumental changes to any "contender" normally screws chemistry far more than it helps it. PHX would lose Amare and Kurt (the only defender to slow down Tim) and the Mavs would have to part with Harris, Howard, and Jet or any combination thereof. I see Terry as the only clutch player besides Stack on that roster. If they lose him, it will be Nick Van Exel all over again, he was their heart.

One of the many reasons for our greatness? We don't with our chemistry. Take that to the bank.

The Spurs will just shine their trophy while Suns and Mavs figure out what went wrong (no defense, all jump shooting). Bringing in scorers (KS, Kobe) is not the answer. The answer is defense.

I predict 0 blockbuster trades this summer. KG and Kobe are the only blockbuster trade names out there. Everyone else (Ray Allen, etc.) is not considered blockbuster. The Lakers and Wolves won't trade because Kobe and KG are supposedly "valuable". T-Wolves will continue to not make the playoffs, while the Lakers will go something like 40-42, make the 8th seed, and get eliminated in the first round. Repeat that cycle for 7 more years or so then KG retires with no championship, and Kobe eventually retires with no championship to add to his three.

The biggest postseason victory for SA was GS beating Dallas. We still need to address how we match up with the Mavs.
I'm not really worried about anyone else out there. East? Hah. West: Suns are run-n-gun-n-dun, Utah's too young (but getting better), Denver's got a little problem named AI (but if they could shed him for some defense they'd be scary quickly), there are no other real contenders. If Suns get KG but give up Amare they're back where they started, it's really only Dallas that worries me. Even after the GS debacle.

i guess "blockbuster," for me, is when a team is made demonstrably better. kg to suns, demonstrably better because of his defense; mavs getting billups or low-post threat, demonstrably better. randolph to knicks ... eh, they'll win maybe another 5-10 games; ditto with ray allen to boston, nothing to really worry about. i lean more toward garnett staying in minnesota, but i'm never right at anything so who knows. mavs remain the obstacle, of course, but if they ship off terry, that makes them a lot less scary to me. hopefully they ship off stackhouse, too, or do some boneheaded s-n-t that gets rid of josh howard.

We lost a starter from that team, and no, I don't mean Tim in the playoffs, although that didn't help either. Sean played only a handful of games after his transplant.

If we lose Manu to kidney disease, and Tim misses the playoffs, then yes, our chances aren't good. Otherwise, it's a bad comparison.
