Oberto has re-signed for a three-year deal. Vaughn got two-years and $2.5M (veteran's minimum).
More information should be coming shortly . . .
yeah, buddy! This is huge!
on Fabs. I'm unsure about Vaughn for all the previously mentioned things.
For the vet minimum, it's great news.
A great third PG who can spell the backup at times for that price and with a second year in the system is very beneficial.
I'm big on the Vaughn re-signing. Having a reliable distributor who plays defense as a backup point is huge.
I'm just sooo glad Jimcs didn't post this sans-link instead of timvp.
Precisely! Jacque Vaughn was being courted by at least a few other teams (Miami) and its nice to be able to lock him up at such a reasonable rate. With a year in the system already Jacque could be huge for us. Having him as a third PG is nice b/c he can step up if needed...although I really hope he never has to.
Oberto has already received tons of praise and needed to be brought back. 3 years sounds like a reasonable length of time, but without knowing how much hes getting I'll reserve further comment for later.
What? Who's going to back-up Parker?
It's illogical for me to assume the Spurs are going to work some kind of trade for the rights to Acie Law, but here's hoping the Spurs get a serviceable backup PG in a deal or through FA.
We've got trade bait... the rights to Scola, Barry's expiring contract, the rotting carcass of Beno Udrih's career.
Yeah!!!!!
Drive for Five!!!!!

Haha at comment about Beno. But true.

Particularly if the price is right on Oberto.
3 year/12 million is my guess, with a team-option in the final year.
hmmmmm, where's bonner's name? His signing is looking less and less the longer we here he has not signed. The spurs showed who was a priority and who was not!
I was unaware of other team's interest in him, soon the quick action on him. Her'es hoping that the team can get together a 2nd PG for Tony, because even with Beno out of the tournament for the summer he'll need a miracle to be a good back-up. That's just what I worry about, the fact that we, as ST, talk about JV as a 3rd PG when, for most of the 1st half of the season, and all of the 2nd, he was the back-up. But, all my opinion.
I'm not too big on Oberto. I don't know why. He dosent catch me as a basketball player. I like him, but...I don't know. He's OK I guess. I'm just not sold on him yet. He only made layups. I guess I can take a product of the system.
i like vaughn, he pissed me off every now and then during the playoffs when he missed a couple of layups because he was trying to hard on a fast break, but overall he's a good back up, he may not put up numbers, but he plays good defense and runs the offense pretty good.....it must feel weird for him that he doesn't have to move for at least another 2 seasons (well that is if we don't trade him in 08).......... hopefully we'll find a younger back up though and he stays on just as 3rd stringer
oberto was signed for way to long, he's gonna be useless in next years playoffs when we play the suns and the mavs, but i guess they have to be loyal to this old guy
I'm good with both moves, I didn't see anyone out there I would take over guys who already knows our system and we know exactly what we will get.
Free agency this year is crap, we need to keep what we got (we did) and work on evaluating the guys who are in our system right now.
^Yea... I don't know what this 3rd string business is... last I checked he was gettin alot more PT than Beno...
Anyway, I'm happy to see Fab back, not that I thought he was goin anywhere, just glad to have that out of the way.... Vaughn, like yall say, I can't stand when he's on the court, but he's not all that bad... especially if we do actually find somebody else and he's really the 3rd string point, then it's great
Hey timvp, link or was this on the news (tv)? Or is this inside info?![]()
Patience, grasshopper.
The thing about Oberto is that he's really not that great, like Bowen. Both players just mold into the Spurs system very well. Some players are like that. They strive in certain environments. And for these two, the Spurs offensive and defensive system fit them very well. Oberto is best moving without the ball, getting easy lay-ups. It may sound unimpressive, but you have to remember Rasho and Nazr couldn't of even catch passes. Also, Oberto is a great team defender. He does a great job of staying on the offensive player and not over-jumping, like Elson. And his help defense is great!
