Lieberman shows the Neo-Con cards....
Lieberman calls for wider use of surveillance cameras
By Klaus Marre
July 01, 2007
The HillSen. Joe Lieberman (D-Conn.), the chairman of the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, said Sunday he wants to “more widely” use surveillance cameras across the country.
“The Brits have got something smart going in England, and it was part of why I believe they were able to so quickly apprehend suspects in the terrorist acts over the weekend, and that is they have cameras all over London and other of their major cities,” Lieberman said.
“I think it’s just common sense to do that here much more widely,” he added. “And of course, we can do it without compromising anybody’s real privacy.”
Lieberman lamented the “petty, partisan fighting” in Congress and called on his colleagues to join together to upgrade the nation’s electronic surveillance capabilities.
“Right now, we’re at a partisan gridlock over the question of whether the American government can listen into conversations or follow e-mail trails of non-American citizen,” he said on ABC’s This Week with George Stephanopoulos. “That’s wrong. We’ve got to solve that problem, pass a law to give the people working for us the ability to protect us.”
Lieberman, who is more closely aligned with the GOP than the Democrats he caucuses with on the war in Iraq and many national security issues and insisted Sunday that the surge in Iraq is working.
“You might say that, in Iraq, we’ve got the enemy on the run, but for some reason, in Washington, a lot of politicians are on the run to order a retreat by our troops even as they are beginning to succeed,” he said.
Lieberman stated it is not fair to conclude that he is more likely to endorse a Republican for president.
But he added that “so far I would say that Democratic candidates, in the larger questions of American security, have been disappointing, and I hope things will get better as this goes on.”
Jerusalem Joe is part of the Iraq mis-information express pushing administration talking points without any concern at all of the tragic realities of their lies which try to remove our personal freedoms and ignore the deaths their lies cover up. This from an article over at Salon from Glenn Greenwald:
"According to local witnesses, then -- none of whom were interviewed by the media outlets obediently reciting the U.S. military's dramatic narrative about "17 Al Qaeda fighters killed" -- those who were killed by the U.S. strikes had absolutely nothing to do with "Al Qaeda," but instead were guarding their own villages against the very Sunni insurgents whom we now call "Al Qaeda."
The entirety of the screaming headlines on June 22 about the Glorious Military Victory which Killed Al Qaeda was based exclusively on this Press Release issued by the U.S. military (specifically, the Public Affairs Office of "Camp Victory") -- en led "Coalition Forces kill 17 al-Qaeda gunmen near Khalis" -- and read as follows:
"Coalition Forces attack helicopters engaged and killed 17 al-Qaeda gunmen southwest of Khalis, Friday.
"Iraqi police were conducting security operations in and around the village when Coalition attack helicopters from the 25th Combat Aviation Brigade and ground forces from 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, observed more than 15 armed men attempting to cir vent the IPs and infiltrate the village.
"The attack helicopters, armed with missiles, engaged and killed 17 al-Qaeda gunmen and destroyed the vehicle they were using."
That Press Release, with no investigation or modification, immediately became the headlines and lead paragraphs of every major American media outlet. Our news organizations, which claim to have learned so many valuable lessons from their profound failures in the run-up to the Iraq war, "reported" on this incident by doing one thing and one thing only: reading the Press Release and then copying it down and reporting it as Truth...."
Greenwald also quotes" "When is a dead al queda gunman in Iraq not really a dead al queda gunman in Iraq?......When there are witnesses.
Go take a look. Just like Lieberman makes it up to support his opinions and the reporters are too lame to call him on it, the same is true of the press being good little mouth pieces for administration spin and not even investigating if the reports issued to them are even true.
Just give Lieberman his 5min propaganda pitch and then announce, "Brought to you by the Bush administration". This is just what it is and the press keeps allowing it which is why no one believes the MSM anymore.
He lies and they don't even bother to question him on it .
Salon and Glenn Greenwald?

Seriously, I'd like a link so I can read the article and find out how he sourced that nonsense.
You do know Greenwald's been caught lying before, right? He's also the king of sock puppetry.
While you find that link, have a look at what someone, on the ground, in Iraq is saying about al Qaeda:
Bless the Beasts and Children
Please go to the link for the full effect, including photographs. Warning: REAL al Qaeda victims are shown.
I have mixed feelings about cameras in public places. If we did, I would want the following:
1) physical, not software blackout areas that keep windows of residences unavailable for viewing.
2) All cameras available for public viewing for historical time via the internet. Live viewing is questionable. We don't need to help stalkers, but in real-time, I'm sure that we would have enough eyes to report crimes when they happened!
3) No audio
Remember, the public area is not considered to be an area of privacy. With crimes on the rise and a means of determining who is at fault in an accident, cameras are useful tools.
Another good thing would be possible saving lives on some unique situations. I don't remember the details, but a couple went missing a while ago here in Oregon not far from where I live. They were recently found dead, their car running off Highway 26 and out of view from the road. A camera would have at least been able to help rescue workers find them rather soon, especially since a 9/11 call reported a car running off the road! The camera would confirm the incident occurred.
I wonder how that's going to play out too. It was a real 9/11 call without much done. Did they think it was a prank? I suspect someone in charge will be punished for not following up properly.
I say you have no reasonable expectation of privacy, outdoors, in public places.
Cameras should not be used to capture video of people on private property without their permission -- even if the property is visible from public property. That's right, I think papparazzi are wrong to use telescopic lenses to capture images on private property.
Other than that, I could care less. If my actions could legally be viewed by human eyes, without my knowledge, what's the difference with being viewed by a camera lens without my knowledge?
While it didn't prevent the terrorist attacks in London, it certainly led to a quicker resolution and capture of those responsible.
Law enforcement already reviews Toll booth video, and traffic cam video for evidence and/or the presence of suspects when investigating crime. Why tie their hands by throwing a shoe about installing cameras all over the place?
How did I know dan would come up with a and moan session about the London attacks not being successful. I guess it's bad for morale, eh, dirka dan?
The reason the media has been 'pimping' the attacks is that there isn't jack going on in the news right now.
The alternatives to the lead story in the news right now are:
Chris Benoit, Roid Rage
What's Paris up to now she's a free woman
Lohan just turned 21
Rain in Texas
Libby's commuted sentence
How ing hard is it to see that there's not much in the news right now?
We have a winner!Libby's commuted sentence
![]()
Oh yeah, like Libby's commutation has been muted.![]()
The U.K. bombings and the Libby thing are 1a and 1b on the news right now, what more do you want?
Another missing white girl on her senior trip in the Caribbean? Another four year old girl fallen down a well in her family's backyard?
Lieberman should just put the damn (R) after his name and be done with it.
And, the R's would take him.
Say, wasn't he the Democrats Vice-Presidential nominee in 2000?![]()
You're joking, right?
Lieberman agrees with the war. He is a more traditional democrat. He is generally liberal on almost everything else except national security.
