LOL, man that blows. I think we're going to see AHF develop twenty new aneurisms next season when it's all up to Pop alone to call out of bounds plays and plays after timeouts.

    Congrats to PJ.

Some expect Pop to just slide over Don Newman to the lead assistant coach role. I wonder if that's going to be what happens or if the Spurs will look to bring in a new lead assistant from the outside.

    NBA: Sonics will hire Carlesimo

Web Posted: 07/03/2007 06:02 PM CDT

    Johnny Ludden
    Express-News Staff Writer

The Seattle SuperSonics have decided to hire P.J. Carlesimo as their new head coach, an NBA source said Tuesday evening.

Carlesimo has spent the previous five seasons as an assistant on the staff of Spurs coach Gregg Popovich.

Seattle’s new owner, Clay Bennett -- a former member of the Spurs’ ownership group -- has tried to use the Spurs as a blueprint to remake the Sonics. Last month, Bennett hired Spurs assistant general manager Sam Presti to oversee the Sonics’ front office.

Seattle is expected to announce Carlesimo’s hiring Wednesday afternoon.

Well, at least the league officials know what the Spurs are all about: Success.

I'm guessing they just promote Newman, but who knows.

Congrats to PJ. It's been a long time coming but he deserves it. I hope the Spurs can bring a former player back like a Mario Elie or someone to be the #1 asst.

That would be a slight to Newman not to move up. Like it really matters to pop who's sitting in the 2nd or 3rd chair.

I would love to see the Spurs go out and hire a quality international coach.

Magnano did not stay at Whirlpool Varese in the Italian A.

Too bad the last report I saw had Ettore Messina staying with CSKA.

Last I remember it had been speculated or even confirmed that he would be willing to be an assistant in the NBA for a couple of years.

I guess so - Pop and RC recommended him (and PJ) for the head coaching job in Seattle.
