This is mainly for Shoog i guess, but anyone have any recommendations? my Talisker bottle is nearly empty, and i'm looking for a good single malt bottle to taste... Not scared of a strong phenolic tasting one like Laprohaig either, the Talisker was very peaty.
THIS WORKS FOR ME![]()
Hey Lee, my brother in law was explaining the malts in whiskey to me, have any recommendations?
thanks!
generally i prefer single malts. i have had glenmorangie, glenfiddich, bruichladdich, talisker, and several others. the laddich was 18 years old and excellent, the talisker is great but takes some getting used to. i think i'll go with the aberlour or macallan this time.
what bottle did shoog give the Ellis'?
The only scotch i'll partake in.

I'm hardly an expert.
My favorites is the Macallen 18 (we got that for my former boss as a retirement gift) and the Macallen 12 (which is what I bought the Ellis'). The Glenmorangie 12 was very, very good. Hard choice between that and the Macallen.
Most of the others I've tasted I was too far gone to really remember.
There was one I hated: Ardbeg 10-year. My god that literally tasted like turpentine. So I guess I don't like peaty ones.
Seconded, try this if you can find it. Last place I found any was in an out of the way store in Lakeland, Florida.
Aberlour a'bunadh
Wish all the yuppies hadn't found out about single malt. Back not too long ago you could get an 18 y.o. Macallan for $50.
scotch sucks.
In your case I can understand the problem.
Night Train does tend to up ones taste buds.
BUMWINE.COM
they have the aberlour 12 and 18 at grapevine market here in austin, i'll check spec's for the 15. thanks guys!
You might want to try some of the other Islay distilleries as well, since you mentioned the Laphroaig.
I'm partial to Bowmore and Lagavulin myself.
Lagavulin- I'll second that.![]()

Buchanan's De Luxe Blended Scotch Whiskey
It's only about 30 bucks, and is pretty smooth. I like to mix it with Topo Chico Mineral Water and a squeeze of lime.

Nevermind, Taco's ass already pulled that .
McCallan 15 year is my bag baby.
One day when I make it big I'm going to drink 10 bottles in a row and die a pleased man.
my recent favorite so far is Highland Park 16 year - at grapevine their scotch guy selected his own barrel last year and they still have stock of it. Aberlour was good, very smooth. I prefer the bite at the end of the Highland Park. Recently got some Quarter Cask Laphroaig, that's another beast entirely.
I like Thunderbird aged 20 years
Just go buy yourself a bottle of Highland Mist and save yourself
a bundle of money. It is a good sipping scotch or goes well with
water. It's all alcohol anyhow and most people cant tell the
difference between the inexpensive and expensive. But they
talk a good game.
